Hey great sight! I'm a huge fan of anything that makes music sound good, and
at the top of that list are great speakers. I was reading harmanpro magazine
and learned for the first time some of your JBL history. I knew JBL made great
speakers. In fact I have some I bought in a high end speaker shop. Their
custom made speakers sounded good but were out of my price range, so I took
A/Bed them against a set of rebuilt speakers. The rebuits sounded better than
the expensive new custom speakers, and were within my price range. So I've
owned a set of great sounding JBL L77s for at least 15 years. I knew they had
some years on them, but never knew till today that they are 1971 vintage. And
they still look and sound great! I use them for my main stereo, and have my
keyboard (a Korg Triton) connected to them via a mixer. Marty

Considering how big the impact of JBL has been on the evolution of the
speaker. It's only fitting that someone achieves the journey. Not to mention
the fact that there is still a lot of vintage JBL speakers still lovingly
enjoyed. thanks for a look at the history. Roger

VOTT's are fabulous!!!! As a former part-time radio announcer, I was
constantly looking for speakers that would reproduce the most horrific musical
instrument. Ya know, the mamoth pipe organ! I listened to a set of VOTT's in
the living room of a broadcast and recording engineers house. He drove them
with about sixty (60) watts. The organ never sounded reproduced so beautiful
and clean, crisp!!

Hi, I work for a 5 years in the early 70's with an ALTEC 9200 Console.I lost
all the documents about this console and their components. Do you have some
pictures and technical specs. from this 9200 console? I valued so highly.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Just a quick thought as I fell across a Wisconsin Alumni Golf Tourney saying
"Rob McRitchie and Tim Ciotti" 1st Place? After googling Don and Rob McRitchie
(not very computer savy, stuck in the days of the pen)came across this site.
Could it be? Don and Rob from Rochester, MI?? If this is true, I hope this
note reaches you and reaches you well. Cheers to Hampton's Finest. Your lost
friend, Dave Lion

I owned at least 100 JBL drivers over the years.I ran a pro sound company and
liked the sound (specs) and reliabilty of JBL over the past 35 years .Own a
pair of L200's in the living room and just adding some 075 drivers. Still a
great sounding speaker.Love this site

My father was a sales rep for Lorne F. Greene and Associates many years ago.
They sold/repped James B. Lansing products in the Chicago area. Sometime
around the late 60's or very early 70's he purchased a "Paragon" sound system
which I still have along with a #375 high frequency driver. I remember that he
had with that a dividing network and back loaded horn which I think was a
#C435. I look forward to learning more about the history of the equipment he
valued so highly.

I used to own a magnificent pair of JBL L-100t floor standing speakers (back
in the 90's). Since then, I have become a JBL "addmirere" and allways on the
search for new models. Allthough I do not use JBL speakers in my current
system nowdays, I still consider it the best home/professional speaker brand
available. CHAU RONNIE

Very enjoyable and informative site. Long time JBL fan. Have owned the
following: L-25, L-36, L-88PM12, L-100, L100T, L-200...Added 2405 pro tweeters
and L-300 xovers, L-220, L-250...various car drivers and subs and a pair of
S-4 in-wall speakers. Still own several pair of the above. My pic of the
lot....love my L-220'S. Have had them re-foamed once but they still perform
like new and I've had them since 1979. They are my main speakers in my
surround system with L-100T's in the rear. They'll part your hair!! Have been
in the audio/video field since the late 70's and have sold many lines of
high-end speakers. Still prefer the vintage JBL's (let's not forget
Altec...Model 19's or 604's in a 602 cabinet certainly kick butt), over
essentially anything else. Currently building a guitar amp/speaker combo using
a pair of 112a 8" drivers out of a pair of L-212's and various other JBL
drivers. OK...I'm outta here for now....great site. Ray

Great site!! I use a pair of 4312A since 1986. They can still beat other more
expensive speakers nowadays. With good tube amplification they can sound like
a dream. Lot of respect goes to the pioneers of the early days from JBL. The
4312A bass loudspeaker is still one of the best in the world!!

I was selling (and building custom) JBL products for home consumer use in the
early 70's, and have always LOVED the sound from JBL's monitor series
products. Today, 30-some years later, they still aren't rivaled! Truly an
amazing accomplishment and wonderful products! I have a set of L300's that I
could never part with. Hurrah for JBL!

Truly enjoyed your site and it brought back several memories. I have owned a
pair of special A7's for over 30 years. In the late 60's I was working in the
Audio industry and called JBL to get information how to apply the PR15's to my
515B's. To my surprise Ed May was willing to give me a hand with the enclosure
design. I had the privilege to speak with Mr. May several times while building
the speakers.

It's amazing to me, how someone has taken the time and energy, not just for
all the research, that must have taken to format this wonderful web page. But
the extensive historical background done of am American legacy, that will
surely withstand, the test of time. I have been an owner on numerous Altec
vacuum tube theater equipment throughout my life. So when I come across, what
now we call "vintage Altec " equipment, and get it up and running, there is an
overwhelming enjoyment, not just for where I am today, but where I come. They
say, that we should go through life building bridges for others to follow in
our footsteps.James B.Lansing, the bride builder. I thank you for this page.

since I've thought of those good times. Hi to Mark Gander and Mark Ureda!

Thanks for the history lesson! Learned that SONY really isn't all it is made

Thank you so much for this site that is dedicated too the man who I have so
much admiration for J B Lansing. At the age of 9 in 1960 I was introduced to
his speakers systems and have listen ever since from the recording studios to
my home. I have customized a set of cabinets with dual 15's for each side
using Altec model 416 for the low end. Each speaker is in a 10cubic ft chamber
allowing for 20cubic per side. I got the help I needed from a man Richard May
who woked for Altec back in the 70's giving me the dimensions for my cabinets.
Two Altec 808 mid drivers with Manary horns and Two 902 HF for my top end.
There is nothing like them. Every time I hear them I only wish I could have
met Mr. Lansing and he could hear the sound of his speakers. Thank You for
keeping his name and the legacy alive. Anthony Bucci Cinnaminson NJ.

What a great forum to place to dialog, love this site, I fell in love with
JBL audio components around the age of 16 and could only dream of owning a
paragon system or a pair Of Olmpus with the S8R system. I owned my fist mac
2505 at 16 as well as my first 375 driver at the same age, today at 52 I have
finally had time to collect another 375 allong with 075's and am trying to
design them into home built folded horns that I built several years ago. I
also collect mac gear and know have a complete stack. Will try to post
pictures when all is complete. Thans for all the work that you folks have put
into this site (I'll be back !!!) Gary G.

To create a realistic reproduction in a home theater, lots of air needs to be
moved, in a way that pleases the ear. JBL chassis are one of ...if not the

you mentioned a "frasier-may" loudspeaker. PLEASE not it was not fraiser, but
it was Frazier as in Jack Frazier. The unit pictured is a Frazier
"Dixielander" You can still see two of them hanging aht the Hilton, where Pete
Fountain plays in New Orleans He doesn't use them anyomre, he uses JBL...but
if he takes the speakers down the audiense will see how faded the curtains
really are....i'd love to have them....thanks Todd Crane

Great site and a treat for an old audiophile like me. I purchased my first
set of JBL speakers starting in the late 1960's. Eventually, I built up two
S8R systems and built my own cabinets. I still have these speakers. There are
none better. The cabinets have changed, the edges redone, and the sopund is as
good as ever. Now, in the 00's I still look for JBL. Have a couple of
bookshelf systems and recently found a pair of Lancer 77's for a great price
because the woofers needed new edges. Did that this winter. These babies will
complement our new huge LCD television this year. Thanks for a great site and
all the resources. I have applied for a full login and forum access. Brent
