    LE14H-1 surround/spider Question

I have extracted one LE14H-1 out of my L250's and 250Ti's.

The driver out of the L250 has had a recone (on LHS of photo ). The driver out of the 250Ti is original but the foam has started to go.

When I look at them side-by-side, the 250Ti driver has a noticeable "sag" downwards. The reconed driver looks more "normal".

Does anyone know if the "sag" is due to foam surround fatigue or is it a sign that the spider is also on the way out?

I am just wondering if this driver is worth refoaming. If the spider has had it, then I guess the driver will never be 100% again without a recone?

If it still plays without problems, I'd just mount it upside down after the refoam, and keep using it.

Yes, I did read about the "upside-down" trick. They sound fine to me to be honest but I have cloth ears anyway I think.

It just made me wonder when I had them sitting on the desk side-by-side and they looked so different.

    Andy,
From looking at them front view it does look as if the 250TI woofer is sagging. The second best way to double check is to set them on a counter top, and look from the side. If there is a definite sag you will see it from the side view. (spider will dip towards the middle) Also looks like on the re-coned woofer the plastic ring is coming away from the edge in the last pic. If you do not have a good re-foamer over there this guy in the states does the spiders for and extra $10.00 on top of the foam job. These are repairable.

New foam might put them back in alignment, but the re-foamer can tell you for sure if the spider is shot.

Also you have access to re-cone kits for $200.00 US get them and getter done!

Edgewound can help also, talk to him. This is what he does.

Here is the link you could send him your pics and ask questions. ??

    JBL le14h1

I have a pair of LE14-H-1 that need refoam. I saw a video on utube that shows its a pretty simple procedure. I have refoamed about 15 speakers in the past. The question I have about the le14's is 1) there is not a lip on the woofer basket where on normal refoams - the foam will sit. Does this foam on the le14 rest on the inside lip of the basket?

Also 2) should i remove the rubber gasket ring that goes around the inside of the basket before i refoam? also should it be removed and then reapplied after the new foam is in or should i buy a new ring? where do i buy them? thanks!
