Question on packing 15" drivers for shipping

I recently purchased two E145 baskets, ready for re-cone.

The seller says "I will tiewrap them together in an 18X cube box." Alternatively I can try to locate some real 15" speaker boxes from a local dealer and send them to the seller. I recall reading here somewhere (although I could not find it with a search) someone claiming this was a bad way to pack speakers for shipping. :dont-know

Any opinions here from those experianced in packing and shipping drivers?

    Thank you very much,
    Izzy

They really should be in seperate boxes. I would not ship 15's tie wraped like that. It's too easy for them to shift or break a tie wrap.

    Me neither...

You might find some cubes that fit pretty well, and then cut some masonary/plywood to fit, and bolt the basket to it.

ALSO, do whatever you can to stablize the motor - aggressively. Stuff the heck into the box - heavy styrofoam - all around the driver. These older motors are only glued on, and can separate from the basket. I suffered from this not too long ago. Dave W at JBL Pro doesn't even like to ship these vintage drivers because of this.

Wow, this board always amazes me.

Thanks for the excellent advice. I called the local JBL dealer and bought the two E145 kits in advance (they will hold onto them). That provided me with two nice boxes for the baskets. After reading about the weakness of the motor glue joints, I decided to double box these much like the photos in the linked thread. I have bubble wrap, rubber foam, and styrofoam corners, so I'll prepare two nice packing cartons and send them off to Florida.
