I'm looking at the possibility of using an amp that can deliver 60wpc into 8ohms. By my reckoning that's an output of about 22v. Into a 20 ohm load that would be 24wpc. If I divide that by 10 then it gives me effectively 2.4wpc. If the CDs have a sensitivity of more than 100dB then that should be more than enough. Have I got that right, or am I missing something?

PS. The 60wpc is not the max power output.

They have been in the past. Call and find out.

Any other JBL repair shop should be able to tell you the same.

It is 3cm square and should fit the M2 horn.

I will ask the seller if he can do a silver version and keep the thread informed.
It should be doable as his shop already has silver and gold Bose logos:

    Hello POS!
Do you know anything about this seller and what has happened ? It looks like he has cancelled the listings?

    Hello Flodstroem

    I don't know

At some point he told me he would make a silver version to match the original one, but he never did.
That said I am not sure a plastic silver logo would look right.

Anyway, maybe you can ask sebackman as he ordered a few pairs of the black version and I think he was quite happy with what he got.

Just heard these for the first time on Thursday. What a remarkable speaker. I never heard such a detailed and revealing top end, that absolutely never sounded edgy or harsh, regardless of listening level. Huge, consistent soundstage with a smoothness I've never heard before from a horn loaded compression driver speaker. Now I know why everybody raves about these things. Does anybody not like these things? In my limited listening, I couldn't hear anything they did wrong.

    M2 upside down

I am designing my upcoming theater and have some trouble positioning the subs and LCR in an optimal position at the same time. I saw the picture attached, and was inspired - this would allow me to position speakers and subwoofers how they should.

But... Do you see any downsides by having the M2s placed upside-down?

I don't think there are any down side (or upside-down side??) per se with this situation, as long as you keep a few things in mind:

    1. Being pretty much textbook, the LR crossover lobe will be centered around a straight line between the woofer and horn, which is precisely the lower lip of the horn (the one under the grill), perpendicular to the baffle. Diverging from that axis will affect summation at the crossover point and result in a dip.
    2. The horn is where the directivity pattern will be the most critical/sensitive, so diverging from its center axis will have an effect as well, especially in the UHF.
    3. The woofer range will be affected by the vertical modes, and it is always a good idea to avoid energizing them too much. 1/4 vertical placement is a very good option (and this is basically what the original M2 design shoot for in a typical listening room ).

This two first points will mostly affect front seats because a) they are closer and any height difference will result in a greater angle difference b) they have a higher direct/diffuse ratio. There ideal listening position should not be too far off these two axis (think spinorama listening window).

Point 3 can be achieved with the M2 upside down by shooting for the higher 1/4 point (3/4 from the floor), and could even be refined by using a second (2216nd) woofer at the lower 1/4 dimension for mode cancellation, playing only up to the lower midrange (2.5 way) not to disturb vertical directivity.

Of course you might have to play with angling to meet all these criteria, but this is not specific to upside-down positioning...

Also, placing the woofer at a different height will also affect the delay of the floor/ceiling reflections, and consequently change their impact in the frequency domain at a given distance, but this is not something you can design around anyway (short of absorbing or diffusing all that low mid energy at reflection points...!), and it will not be better or worse, just different.

Couldn't he fix #1 by tweaking the delay setting in his crossover?
