    Surround speakers to match 2226/2447/2405?

The 2226/2247/2405 fronts are (finally!) in operation. The 2245 sub cabinets are made and just need the 2245s (I STILL need a pair if anyone has some to sell).
OK - now what to build as surround speakers?
I had planned 2430 on the horns from the DMS-1 - primarily to match the timbre of the fronts. But this is really total overkill - even JBL only use 8" cone drivers in the THX rated surronds for commercial venues - and I just can't be bothered with more work.
I think I may just instal some in-wall speakers. I currently have my car audio 6x9" as an experiment - they seem fine.
Is this heresy? (I'd use JBLs of course!)
    What do others here use?

    Dave.

10” bass mid and high range surrounds in rare cases, like the JBL 8340 if you’d looked around I’ll bet your find a cinema supplier that as a batch of these at knock down prices.

PM me I have 3 2245's in the process of resurrounding, which are available. They are low mileage and low stress as they came out of a museum theater.

We can discuss prices off the air.

Been seeing several of these on evil-bay lately..., fairly cheaply too.

I had considered these , but no real bass and when we run SACD and DVD-Audio, we like to run the surrounds full range.

Thanks, but not many of these in Australia. Not a major market like the USA or UK. And impractical to ship from there - unfortunately.
JBL stuff is NEVER at "knock down prices" over here - Importer has a monopoly.
I'd like real bass too but it looks like an 8" or 10" in wall is it for me.
So after you considered & rejected the 8340 what did you install?

I'm replacing the 10" woofers in my four existing CV cabinets with W10GTIs and mids/tweeters with 2425s with custom made crossovers. The existing tweeters will be replaced with a port (old port was on back), and the mids will be replaced with L-pads. The cabinets are ~1.4 cu ft, and I have found that a 1.75" diameter port ~2" long (actually a 1-1/4" PVC slip coupling with the center divider honed out) gives the ultimate in bass response without booming.

The JBL 4311 would make a good rear surround speaker.
