Very pretty!
Just curious, if you don't mind saying, what does your guy charge for such a complete service on an old receiver?

$92 ..with 90 day warranty
I hooked it up to the Marantz speakers , the only ones its ever known , and My Golly !!! ..nicest receiver I've ever heard ....trying to figure all the controls , huge power ...only cosmetic fault is a slight scratch on the edge of the top corner by the meters.
Its also kinda cool on the display...there are pin point white markers on the tuning scale between the numerical markings...look red in the pic.
I was struggling to lug it into the house ..kept repeating "cannot drop, cannot drop ..."

I know that one all too well - everytime I've moved the McIntosh I say that ... well, mentally at least because I'm too winded to say it out loud. (The box alone weighs about 15 lbs )
Your tech's service charge is exceptionally fair - I need to put a few things in for routine service, but haven't found anyone local yet.
Are you going to try running the Marantz in any of your known set ups for a true A-B?
doug is a good guy ..been there almost 20 years, most audio guys in the Portland / Vancouver area know him.Have bought and sold with him since..? 1984 ?
he even put on a set of feet on the 2385 - gratis
Audio Specialties - se 102nd
I'm going to let it run all day tomorrow with the marantz speakers , and if plays nice with those, may let it try on the 250ti's later ...

Now see, if you'd kept those hateful L80Ts you could go for it without worrying about hurting anything you valued! That's what I do with mine, though they really don't sound that bad, just near the bottom of my pile these days.
Looks like Doug treats you very well. Tough to find around here though this guy talks a good game. Does it sound like a bunch of smoke-blowing to anyone here? http://www.universalelectronicrepairs.com/

had only tested on FM yesterday,,,today hooked up a DVD player and tossed in a CD ..
HolySh1t !!! that is a detailed image.
funny thing...I was out buying the gear from CL ad this morning and the seller starts telling me about an ad on CL for a big Marantz receiver...we compare notes...he's telling me about MY ad.....anyway , he says if not sold by next week, that he will take it.

and getting some strange emails that refer to the Marantz as "SHE' & "HER" , there seems almost a mystical attraction....
yeah , its airy and powerful and pretty , but inanimate - far as I call tell.

Your dismissive attitude noted.. ie: You gear flippers (as opposed to what ?...... US good guys ?)
I dont sell enough to qualify for that title , I suppose . flipper to me connotates someone who buys and turns around to unload quickly .. feel that the little I do would be more along the lines of "value added resaler" ..speakers get refoamed and tested, veneers revived, hardware problems corrected ... many classic systems get saved from the parter-outer people.
I just put money into restoring a desireable receiver.
Alot of this classic gear wud be in landfills and the HERITAGE audio would slowly disappear if this were not happening all over the world.
And before you come back with the "you are surely noble" remark , yes , there is money involved. I get to play with the gear I like for a while, gain more experience (make a lot of friends) and help pad out my retirement.
BUT , I do end up eating my share of unfixables ...prolly do only a little better than break even ...but keeps one busy.

Sorry dude... I really wasn't torpedoing you. I am sorry you mistook my post as a dismissive attack on your past time. I really don't have any problem with flippers in general... a few flippers on this forum I really respect and a couple I find mercenary and possibly a bit unscrupulous... in either case the fact that they buy and sell gear is of little consequence to me.
Based on numerous posts you have made, you buy and sell orders of magnitude more gear than I do and probably most of us here... is that a bad thing? I don't think so.
As for fixing up items like this Marantz and finding a new home for it, I agree that is a laudable service.
In my post above I found your conversation with the CL seller rather amusing... here is a guy trying to unload some gear on CL to someone else who is doing the same.... and then if you don't find a good home for it he'll fill his garage with your piece... isn't that ironic? I thought so.

Nah, I've learned aboiut a lot of cool gear from you - vicarious living, as it were ...
even got that neat M&K Volkswoofer based on your pictures of one ...
Sounds nice and looks gorgeous!, even with my Citation amp instead of a plate amp
You keep it up, we can use the information/edjumacation/appreciation !!

Well actually..NO ...
he is a guy moving into a smaller house and is moving his GF's gear that she has had since new ...I met her, we talked ..no, not a line as many sellers have.
As for filling a garage with my gear, I somewhat doubt that..got a weird email from him today
"Ok my friend. Your Marantz is eating a hole in my brain. I've been putting ever conceivable combination together trying to think of how I can get that thing off of you. So you may just have to get used to getting emails from me until we figure something out."
Ahh..the neg side of flippering
well unfortunately I seem to buy more than I sell...too much in storage .... I buy some gear that I know will never work again, but its too pretty to let go to the shredder.
