    Drivers for 4560

    He's Back!

    Hi All!

Is there any reason 2225 or 2226s could now be sucessfully used with 4560 cabinets?

    Thanks,

    Bill

I use 2226's in 4560's and they are good.

There have been comments in the past regarding use of the 4560 and 2225/6
drivers... I did this happily (indoors) a few years back, but the concerns
voiced were regarding whether the accordion suspension would/could hit
the straight portion of the "throat" entry ... especially if they were EQ'd to
operate loudly without benefit of a sub (i.e., with high pass filter). This may only
have applied to non-JBL 4560 copies, or it may be a real issue with this driver
when back-mounted to an opening smaller than the outer suspension diameter.
A thicker (1/4"?) "gasket" was the suggested fix (I use gasket in quotes as it
could just be implemented as a hard ring with mounting holes).

SO... short answer is 'no' as Mike already sort of said, especially if not stressed.

Here are the technical specs for those if you don't have them.

    The More

Thank you to all for your input.

I have had these cabinets since the 70s. I have the 2220s that came with the cabinets, the E145s that replaced the 2220s, but all are in need of reconing. Good used 2225/2226s can be purchased for half the recone price. What to do - what to do?

    Thanks,

    Bill

Well, since JBL cone kits for the E145's and 2220's are now obsolete,,,
If we knew what the hell we were doing, we wouldn't call it research would we.

And here I thought those recone kits worked just fine!

Oh wait... that's right, the new vendor couldn't figure out how to make them right with any kind of consistency.

    Recone E145s?

Both the big reconers on the east and west coast say they have JBL E145 kits. Are you saying that even if one bites for the price of the JBL kit, one might not get original performance?

Do the authorized JBL Service Centers "Remagnetize and demagnetize and/or realign pole (gap) and (perform) Internal cleaning, damaged gap, and (remove rust)" as JBL will on request?

Thank you all for your help, it is humbling to be so uninformed.

I'd go with a 2226 because it is a bass reflex driver and has more bass above 50Hz than the 2225. The 4560 doesn't go below 50Hz anyway. So it's a good match. BTW What's the cabinet volume (without the horn volume obviously)?
