    Altec 3127

Anyone got experience with Altec 3127 woofer?

They are paired up with 909-8A and Altec x-over.

Could 3 of these be any good for hometheather use?

They don't have enclosures, and the most similiar speaker I can find is the Altec 937 monitor but they have 908 driver.

The theater conractor for sound in Canada used the 937 monitors for all the cinemas early on in the 80's untill mid 90's . What he did was reverse the front screen. See photo below. These were the best surround speakers I've ever heard.

I got these speakers today (3127 and 909-8A), but don't know yet what kind of box to build for them.

Any sugestions? They will be used as LCR speakers for my HT.

Here are the specs on that.
The FS is high on that one at 50, the 3124 might be more appropriate for your use, or you can just cross in a sub at a higher point, 80 hz or so.
There may be Plans/Specs for the boxes they used somewhere, it might be easiest to copy those.
I do not think there is a great deal of difference between the Altec HF units, they are probably fine.

If you use those with a sub you can use them in the smaller 1.5 cu ft box which gives you lots of flexibility that way.

I will need subwoofers for theses, so I will be useing my pair of TC Sounds LMS Ultra with these speakers.

I'm thinking of maybe useing a 2.0 cu ft box for the 3127/909 since I will be useing them from 80hz ->?

    - As mentioned ( by Harry ) , these woofers were used by Altec in 1.5 cu ft cabinets ( see the the 8127 ) which were tuned to @ 77 hz ( >>> two 3" diameter vents that are 2" long ),,, giving a 3 db down point of 70 hz ( which is well suited to match up to a sub ).

    - Altec 8000 series speaker systems

I've now built some cabinetts for these speakers and I'm in fact kind of surprised of the bass they are able to play! The first time I played with them I actually had to check if my subwoofers were connected too

But I need some help with the x-over (1285-8b) I've set the x-over fq to 1200 hz (when I got it it was 500hz). What would be the best x-over for me? And aprox at what level should I put the volume and should the mf/hf should be put in or out?

I've tried several combos but not really happy yet so I need some directions on x-over

There doesn't seem to be a lot of people using the 3127. I have a pair in a music only system. I'm crossing them at 1400 Hz (12db, passive) to a pair of 811b with FaitalPRO drivers. They are mounted in 8127 clone boxes.

Mine also had pretty strong bass, but that was largely due to a mid base peak in the Altec spec cabinets. I ended up reducing the port size to lower the box tuning. I am currently actively crossing them over to the sub at 100Hz, but I still don't have the crossover to the sub completely sorted.

    Your set up looks nice.
