Schematics for Cabaret 4628-B

Hi guys, just picked up a pair of Cabaret speakers model 4628-b. The drivers are E-145, 2118-h, 2404-J. I think the drivers may be out of phase, and was hoping someone may have the schematics for these things.

Thanks Rob, this was exactly what I needed. The wires are all over the place, I will address them tonight. I'm guessing they will sound great when everything is connected right.

Hi Rob, thanks again for the info on the Cabarets'. I looked at the wiring in these things and Bingo! the phasing was out on the HF and MF. I've spent a little time with them now and I must say these things ROCK!. The bottom end is so solid, and defined. I compared them with a pair of 2235's I have in my 4331's and the differance IMHO is chalk and cheese. The 2235's are I think smoother and more layed back but definately lack the punch and dynamics of the E-145's. Any way thanks again, and it would be interesting to hear what others think about the two drivers. The Cabaret's have a 4 cuft enclosure v's the 4331's a 5 cuft bin. Thanks again Rob.

Well it's good that you can A/B and compare the differences in design intent. I think we've discussed the various design goals in other threads before. Obviously the E145 can't do what the 2235H can (or JBL would have cut costs dramtically by not having to produce the 2231 or 2235 at all! ). Conversely, a 2235H would disintegrate in an application that calls for an E145.

A test you might wish to run would be to sit and listen to each system for a good 6 to 8 hours straight and see what you come away with from that.

Hi Giskard, thanks for the reply. To have six hours to myself would be bliss. I think I get your point though, I'm sure a monitor would be by far less fatuiging after a number of hours of use. I guess I was a little taken back that the E-145's seem to push nearly as much air as the 2241's I had. I would like to put the E-145's into the 4331 bins and see what they are like in a larger enclosure.

I am using E145's from about 40hz up to 300hz. I love them punchy as hell great slam fast and clean. Definately need subs for them though. They sound fine without but if you drop in the subs and do a comparison there is definately something lacking. The subs add to and improve the low end. They just don't have the "weight" for lack of a better word down low. But they have some amazing impact where they are strong. I got mine in 5 cu ft on paper they look lacking but with room gain they do well down to 40hz.

For the last 15 years i have been looking to set up a good bass system based on the E-145. One of my prime target was the JBL double scoop 4320.
I safe a lot of money to buy a pair of E145 back them to be told that Harman was not exporting this driver anymore to France. The alternative was the 2226H. I then decided to make a 4507 enclosure for the 2226H.
Me and my brother are still looking for good E-145. Our search was for raw drivers and the cabaret series 4670, 4628 and 4627.
So far we only achieve to get 2 cabaret 4628B and 2 raw E145 in need of repairs They sound good but a fews small tears are appearing on the suspension.

The E-145h 4628B cannot compare to the bass driver like 2235 and 2234, but you cannot deny the bass reproduce by the E-145 is very very good in the frequency range cover. I also find that the use of the 2118 helps to etablish a smooth and crisp medium.

Here are 2 examples of what we thought of doing!!:
High frequency of 4628 with low frequency of 4435.
4628B with 2245H sub for frequency below 50hz.

I also though a using the Gauss bass driver 4583 to replace the E-145 that gives the same 97db eff and a frequency response closer to the 2235H.

Nothing done yet!!!!!!!!!!
