    Reconing recommendations needed

I would like to know who is a "recommended" company for getting my 117H-1 woofer reconed. I was talking to Orange County Speaker but since I am on the right coast and they are on the left, I figured I would ask all you experts and see if there are any good reconers in my area (Philadelphia, PA).

    Thanks!

Since your in Philly, the best JBL reconer is Eric Wayne of Consolidated Audio, Pompton Lakes NJ.

    He really is THAT good.

Thanks! I have contacted them this morning. Man these are pricey little woofers to get redone! I am bidding on a clean pair of L46s out of Texas which at this point are close in price to getting a recone completed!

So I got that woofer in yesterday. As I expected (and prepared for), I put the new surround in (on?? ) and using 100 Hz test tones, works like a champ.

As I was finishing up tonight I was looking at the old versus new woofer and damn it, they frames, which from a hole and mounting perspective, line up the actual outside diameters are slightly different.

My original is date stamped 1983 and the one from Epay is 1982. Bottom line, they both work, pics will be added tomorrow night and thanks to all, I now have a working pair of L46's. Now onto my control 5's.......

I"ve also noticed trivial differences in frame diameters, in 125A and 127H 10" JBL drivers, which are basically the same "series" of drivers as the 117H, 118H and such, as far as frames are concerned. Apparently, JBL must have either been using more than one casting facility, or the QC spec changed for these drivers, at some point...

They all work the same, except for the occasional problem getting the OD of the frame into the routed recess of a cabinet. Ran into that once, on a pair of L26s... but oddly enough, I was able to SWAP drivers in the pair of cabinets, and both fit, that way... got lucky, I guess...

    Regards,
    Gordon.

Well the fit as far as the cabinet is concerned was fine. Here is a pick with the 1983 edition (bad one) on the left and the 1982 edition (new one) on the right. As long as I keep the grills on, only I will know!!!

So I tested them tonight and after about two hours they are starting to liven up. Here they are side by side. If I decide to keep them as a family room daily driver I think I am going to send the one original out for a recone (or should I do both?). The lack of symmetry with the bass speakers is killing me. Bottom line, I am still going to get stands for them and put them through their paces. Driving them with a 160 watt/ch Sansui integrated.
