    altec n3000 filter network

    Hi all,

    I have managed to find a very nice pair of Altec 602A with original N3000 networks. However i would like to improve that network using hi-perf passive components and i was wondering whether somebody has the N3000 schematics ?

    Thank you for your help !

    Best regards,

    Dominique, Paris, France

    I had the 601D for a while. The network was an N3000 as well. It was very simple - the only capacitor inside is for the tweeter. The woofers had no low pass filtering, they simply rolled off naturally.

    Should be easy to replace just the one capacitor, it had the value marked on the side.

    Oh No ! A "series network" , with an AutoFormer, to boot !

    Run Away ! Run Away !

    Seriously now;

    - Nice post Rob ! I think that's the first time I've ever seen the proper way to wire an autoformer into a series network .

    Your welcome! Send me your Email in a PM. I can send you a development article on the 601/602.

    It's the A so maybe it changed??? You didn't have the step attenuator with the screw heads marked of for 0 -2 -4??? You had a pot instead??? I have a 601A at home have to drag it out and take a couple of pictures of the network. Nice sounding little speaker. There is no LF network. No inductor on the woofer.

    Mine only had a coil and a cap for the high pass. The L-pad also had a switch. I am at the office now, but at home I have a drawing I made of mine. Doesn't matter anyhow, I suppose. There is only one cap to change out.

    The N3000A is quite different from the later versions, as it has three tweeter levels selected by jumper wire position. The later versions used L-pads for better adjustability. I have an N3000A soldered to my 601A, I've been thinking about replacing it with a loose N3000E.
