For a home HIFI set up, what would be a good safe max. SPL (max. db) level to design a system to be able to go?

In the German professional studio system regulations there's a "standard" acoustical volume defined, with 86dB(a). This is why the linearity of the ear is nearly the optimum at this level. All faders for the "monitoring" speakers use the 0 dB mark measured for this level.
Of course they can drive 10dB or 15dB more.....
