    Horn Update

    I got to mounting the 2461's onto the BRH90 horns and mounted them ontop of the mid bass horns. I used a cheapo SAE two crossover for experimental purposes just to test where the drivers sounded nice. First off I tried the 2461 at 500hz. I ramped it between 500 and 800 and it sounded best at 500hz. I don't play my music at ear poping levels so there was no honk at moderate levels. Next I tried to blend the mid bass horn. No matter where I adjusted above 150hz it just didn't sound nice to me? I also balance the crossover 12db down from the 2461 to blend them in output.

    If I build a crossover at 150-200hz for the midbass horn and the 2461's at 500, then I've got a severe bump in my curve? My ears indicated that it sounded pleasent, but have I done something wrong?

    Any ideas greatly appreciated...ps there is a slot 2405 ontop and the 2461 really just rolled off into the tweeter nicely, but I suppose I need to experiment more here as well.

    Real Time Analyzer. It listens with a microphone and displays a graph of what it hears.

    Some means of measuring what's going on as you do this.

    It's tough to do at those low frequencies, but it can be done....

    Perhaps another forum member is familiar with that model and can provide a specific recommendation.

    I'm using Behringer UltraCurve Pro DEQ2496 1/6-Octave (61 bands) with the Behringer ECM8000 mic, which is about $60. It requires 15V phantom power.

    Check what your manufacturer recommends, maybe?

    Howdy

    TrueRTA (software RTA, available as freeware basic version) is a PC-based RTA I've been happy with. The free version won't save files, and is pretty wide-band, but could do what you're doing OK. I have the big $ version, I think it cost like $50 or so. It also comes with a mic calibration file for the Behringer ECM8000 mic Zilch mentioned which I also use and like. There are files for a few other mics, and you can write custom files to calibrate any mic you want. You MUST go through all the cal setup steps for your soundcard and mic, and save it, or the results will be relative at best. A low $ solution that works for me.

    I came across an eBay listing with specs and pics (incl mic) of the C-101;

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=5867838954

    As a 10 band, 1 octave-per-band EQ/RTA, with a BW Q of 2.5, this unit is VERY limited for real-world use. Personally, I wouldn't recommend wasting the time/$ to find a mic for it. The listing picture of the mic looks like none I've ever seen, and is likely a one-off proprietary unit.
