active crossover recommendation needed

Hi all,

I´m looking for a really good active 2-way crossover. I found that the cheap parts like the behringers or other chinese made units sounded disappointing when used in a good system. Any recommendations from the experienced forum members would be helpful. Thank you,

Try a JBL M552, I use the M553 three way and love it. Some might say that these aren't the top of the line but I find them to be very good and flexible enough. They are also quite inexpensive on Ebay too. They do not have RCA jacks but it is easy to make your own XLR to RCA cables with basic skills and common sense. You can always get your money back out of them should they not be to your liking. Good luck, Steve G

I give Steve's suggestion a strong 2nd also. M552 cannot be beat for the money. I'm sure there are better ones at exponential costs. I've used several different models in the middle of the road price range and this on has it, Rane, DBX, Tapco, etc lost.

Look into www.marchandelec.com, wide variety of units in kit or assembled form, your choice of slopes, very reasonable, and quite good!

Well, I am very happy with my Ashly XR4001.

So, I would strongly recommend that you look into the Ashly XR1001.

Personally, I think you would find it to be a good value.

The others are much more inexpensive, like the XM-44, less than a grand I paid for mine!

The XM-126 is his top of the line! I wasnt recommending that one, but he has his xovers available in kit form for very inexpensive prices too!

Check the XM-44, available assembled or kit, 2way, 3way, or 4way, 6 thru 24 DB slopes available.

Not everything is $3500.

When using horns and a electronic crossover, what might the minimum order required for safe operation.

Say I was running a 15" LF driver crossed over to a 1" compression driver at 800hz like the 2426(or similiar type). Would a 2nd order(12db/oct) be sufficient, or would a 3rd or 4th order be best?

I am thinking if running the compression driver down to its lowest rated crossover point that 12db/oct would be minimum to use.

Any comments or opinions????

I'd just hook YOUR compression driver up, apply the juice and find out.

Totally depends on the compression driver. You would need to be certain what it is you plan to use.
