    Westex 2080 woofers

    Hi
I have a chance to pick up a pair of these woofers, but they have to be reconed. Will the Altec 515 cones fit?Bill at GPA has the cones but not the original phenolic spider. Will using a later type of spider affect the performance.
How do these woofers compare to the 515B?
    Regards
    Rajiv

The Westrex woofer was heavily inspired by the Altec 515, though I don't know if the dimensions are close enough to allow the installation of Altec parts. The Westrex compression driver was based on the Altec 288 as well.

If the original phenolic spiders are in good condition, it is possible that they can be saved for reuse in the rebuilding job. The old speakers were assembled with cellulose glue, which can be dissolved to salvage the components. The original former and voice coil can often be saved and reused as well.
