Fender Amp's???

Thinking about picking up either a Fender Blues Deluxe or
A Fender Blues Junior.

Any one got any input good or bad on either one of these amps.-

I would like to throw in a E120-8 in it as well.?

I have used a JMP 50 watt half stack since the late 80's and plan on keeping it till the end but want a small combo I could move up and down thru the house with out throwing out my back.

I've owned/own them all and was/am not too impressed with either the Blues Deluxe or the Blues Jr. The overdrive AND the reverb circuit in both those amps is sorely lacking, very cheezy sounding.

You haven't mentioned what kind of tone you want from a Fender. If it's typical Fender surf/country/blues/rock-a-billy I would look for a clean old silverface Deluxe Reverb/Vibrolux Reverb/Princeton Reverb/Pro Reverb. But if you want an amp NOW, then I would look at the Deluxe Reverb reissue.

But if you are looking for distortion out of the two you mentioned above, forget it....your Marshall will kill 'em both.

As far as what sound I am after, stinging blues, rock-a-billy, surf sound. I am looking for what a fender circuit can do that the Marshall can't. As well as something that I could relocate to any of my three levels in the house with out popping pain killers for my back later.

i have to say the blues junior is my favorite amp ever made for the money

if you want something that is small but can compete with the marshall take a look at either the kits at http://www.tedweber.com/ or give voodoo amps a look http://voodooamps.com/ the make what they call the V-plex 50 2x12

I hear what your saying about the jbl adding weight. I can handle the 50 watt Marshall head no problem as it's not the weight but the physical size of the 4x10 bottom that a bitch to lug up and down the levels of the house.

Ah, a late model JMP Canadian head!

Another amp to consider is the Fender Pro Jr, 15 watts of pure tube tone. Plus, if you ever "need more" just plug that little guy into the Marshall slant and your jaw will drop at the tone.

I believe it to be of 1982 vintage as the ser.# ends with a "N"

I bought it used from the first owner in 1988 for $325.00 Canadian

It was a good price back then, and right now as well I would think?

"N" is an '81, which was just about the end of the JMP era. Those are easy to spot having the large radii at the corners of the control panel.

Hi Hamilton I always have wondered what the JMP implied, and have heard a few different stories. Would you happen to know? I have a feeling with your collection of Marshalls you would know and be correct as well.

Hey John,

Try a Rivera R55-12 single 12" combo. You get both Marshall and Fender tones in the same amp with even more flexibility...Rivera has some smaller amps too....30, 40 watts. I use a Rivera Knucklehead 55 head with one E120-8...get lots of compliments on the tone.....crystal clean to downright nasty...and all points in between.
