Flat to 1Hz!?!?! Yeah, this thing should be on tour for the millions of people that suffer from constipation. No figs needed- a few select notes and all will be instantly disemboweled. ...reminds me of a SouthPark episode...
Hey- wasn't the military experimenting with these in the 70's??

    I'm a fan

I had a long conversation with inventor Bruce Thigpen in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago. The Eminent Technology room had one of these subs sitting out on static display, as either the show organizers or the hotel (forget which) wouldn't let him run it!

Mr. Thigpen explained one interesting aspect of its performance. For a given SPL, a speaker's piston area needs to quadruple when the frequency being reproduced is halved if excursion is kept constant. This is at least partially accounted for with this device, as the fan rotates at a constant speed and the lower the frequency being reproduced, the farther the fan rotates in the period it takes to produce one wavelength.

They did run it at a very slow speed and demonstrate how the vanes tilt to modulate the air current with the audio signal. It needs to be baffled with a very large enclosure, or even the next room, to work its best.

Mr. Thigpen was a charming man, one of those quiet types who you can just tell is a true genius. There are so few innovators in audio these days; we really need more people like him.

Quote taken from the linked article:

"Now, about that $12900 price tag, Bruce did have a little something to say: "we should be able to get the price down next year to something more reasonable." Yeah, I know some of you are squealing like little girls right now, admit it."

    It's funny because its true...!
But it was just a small squeal.
