    A Salute

HP took time from his Florida visit to stop by and say hello....we cracked a couple of cold ones (Warsteiner) and got busy logging serial numbers for the
LHS registry. At last count it was more than 2500 entries.. His lovely lady,
Angelica, sat patiently while we went on and on....everything JBL!

HP....if everyone on this forum is as half as engaging as you, I'm in
    great company....you're a class act.

My one regret was we didn't have more time.

I had some drivers that I wanted to substitute (145's for the 150-4c's) in the Paragon and L300....ooops, I couldn't wait.

Looking foreward to next time.....Russell B.

    S109 AquariusIV parts

S109 AquariusIV parts in two ebay auctions

    LE8T-2 serial number 12789 and 12804
    LE20-1 serial number 78703 and 78706

    LE8T-2s in ebay auction:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/JBL-LE8-8-Inch-F...QQcmdZViewItem

    from auction description:
A Matched pair Of JBL LF8T 2 Full Range Speakers
    100% Original
    Serial # 1: 12789 #2: 12804
8 Ohm Rating, Both speakers measure 5.9 Ohms
These speakers are in excellent original condition. They still have the original "Lansaloy" surrounds. They are begining to get stiff however, and will need to be treated or replaced. For some great information go to http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/index.php. These surrounds can be restored by applying brake fluid, of all things, do a search for it at the forum. There is also a great instructional thread on replacing the surrounds, and the recommended vendor for the correct replacments is an eBayer who sells the kit for about $20.00!

    tweeters in auction:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/JBL-LE20-TWEETER...QQcmdZViewItem

    from auction description:
A Matched pair Of JBL LF20 1 Tweeters
    100% Original
    Serial # 1: 78706 #2: 78703
8 Ohm Rating, Both speakers measure 4.1 Ohms, normal for these drivers, see the Lansing Heritage forum for more information.
These speakers are in excellent original condition. They are still mounted on the front panel from a pair of Aquarius 4's, and have the front mounted "slot loading" diffuser attached to the front of the drivers. This has protected them over the years, the cones and frame are in PERFECT condition!

    D131 + 075 + N2500

    D131 + 075 + N2500 on ebay in three separate ebay auctions.

D131 serial number 511169 (November 1955 date code interpretation)
    075 serial number 2692
    N2500 serial number 2810

This may be an original system as the late 1955 D131 is paired with the early serial numbered 075 and N2500 that were introduced in 1956
But I couldn't find a designation for this as a system as opposed to the D123/075/N2500 (002 system) or the D130/075/N2500 (030 system), maybe I just missed it.
If you've got a line on the system designation for this combination of components please post a link or a scan.

The woofer is listed in auction:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/JBL-D131-James-B...QQcmdZViewItem

    from auction description:
Up for auction is a dead but rare vintage 1950's James B. Lansing (JBL) model D131 16 ohm loudspeaker driver. This unit was just removed from it's original cabinet where it has sat untouched for a very long time. I tried testing it but no sound at all... totally dead! The overall cosmetic condition is pretty good for it's age with the paper cone totally intact and the surround also very good. There is however some tarnishing on the sliver part of the cone where it looks as though something dripped on (but was wiped off) of it years ago... hard to describe but totally visable in the photos.

The tweeter is listed in auction:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/JBL-075-16-ohm-B...QQcmdZViewItem

    from auction description:
Up for auction is a vintage 1950's Jim Lansing JBL 075 "Bullet" tweeter. This is a rare older 16 ohm version. I have tested this and it seems to function as it should... sounds very good. The tweeter looks a bit funky due to tarnishing on the aluminum parts but not too bad overall. This unit was just removed from it's original cabinet where it has sat untouched for a very, very long time.

The crossover is listed in auction:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/JBL-N2500-16-ohm...QQcmdZViewItem

    from auction description:
Up for auction is a vintage 1950's JBL N2500 Crossover unit. This is a 16 ohm version that was originally used with the old D131 and 075 drivers we currently have listed in different auctions. This piece was just removed from it's original speaker cabinet and worked when we tried the speaker as a whole. The cosmetic condition is quite good for it's age with some light tarnishing of the metal on the connection terminals... we have not tried to clean it off as it is not so bad and only shows it's vintage.

    Got it

    Hi Glen,

do you know what's the second number " 205 " of this Metregon means?
Is it the cabinets wood stamped number like the Paragons show it ?

    HP

    edit: found it in JohnW's explanation.....ok, it's the drivers assembly with 130A, 275, N600 and H5040....thanks John

Glen, what do you think of this auction? Don't think I've seen the Jim Lansing design cabinet fitted with the oval ID plate woofers before.

Well hell's bells, the C32 and C33 enclosures are still in the catalog as late as 1955:

    http://www.lansingheritage.org/image...1955/page3.jpg

I've always had it in my head that the oval ID plate woofers started about 1956. Glen, have you been able to pin this down from your serial number decoding?

    You've nailed it again Steve,
    The latest date-code number I've seen on a D130 was 601169, January of 1956.
    The latest D131 date-code I've found is 511169, November 1955.
(I haven't found enough date-able D131s with early oval foilcals except to guess it probably switched around the same time as other woofers)
The latest 130A date-code number I've seen was 510169, October of 1955. I am aware of a 130A with oval plate serial number 10268 from December 1955 (was in a system with a horn date-code 512-153 and N1200 crossover 512170)
The latest 150-4C with a date-code number I'm aware of is 502825, February 1955. The earliest oval foilcal 150-4C was serial number 114## tenatively dated around 1957, a pretty broad window (1955-1957), but consistent with the late 55/early 56 switch of D130s and 130As .
I think the 130B was mostly done by the time the oval foilcals began to be used (excepting the example you just found on ebay), and other woofers arrived too late for the cut-corners date-code numbering.

    L100 parts

L100 parts in three separate ebay auctions from cabinets that were "not in very good shape"

    123A-1 serial number 49564 and 49723
    LE5-2 serial number 39761 and 39973
    LE20-1 serial number 125500 and 126090

originally from cabinet serial number 26921 and 26993

    woofers in ebay auction:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/JBL-123A-1-Woofe...QQcmdZViewItem

    from auction description:
Up for bids is this pair of JBL 123A-1 woofers out of a pair of JBL L100 Century speakers. Serial numbers 49564 and 49723
They measure 12" in diameter and weigh about 9 lb each.
They were taken off of a working pair of speakers were the cabinets were not in very good shape. One of the woofers had a crack about one inch long in the paper cone that I repaired with a thin coat of GE silicone sealant on both sides.
I tested the woofer and it sounds pretty good without any signs of distortion, just as the other one. On both woofers the cloth surrounds are very pliable without any signs of deterioration.
These are delicate items, and will have to go very well packaged and double boxed in order to protect them during the trip. Please see the shipping calculator at the bottom of the page for a rate to your place.
Please email with any questions before placing your bid, or if you need other pictures. Postal Money Orders, Cashiers Check or PayPal will ship your item within 48 hours after payment is received. Personal Checks have to clear first.

D46 Minigons with Energizer in ebay auction

D46 Minigons with Energizer in ebay auction. Non technical seller was thorough in furnishing the information they had (serial numbers on information envelope), but a little fuzzy on some details, (S-5 system component set). This may be the earliest pair of Minigons I've ever seen as they have the brass JBL logo emblem that is actually shaped like an exclamation point. Every other example I have seen has the later silver and black emblem with exclamation point on a rectangular plate.

    D46 S-5 WX cabinets containing:

    LE10 serial number 1911 and 1919
    LE30 serial number 1678 and 1751
    LX3 crossover serial number 1638 and 1643
    SE401 serial number 1405

    in ebay auction:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=180053196419

    from auction description:
I CHANGED THE GALLERY TO SHOW THEY ARE NOT TWO RIGHT SPEAKERS. PLEASE STOP SENDING ME EMAILS ABOUT THIS. THIS AUCTION IS FOR THE TWO MINIGONS AND TRANSDUCER.... PAY NO MIND TO THE RADIO IN THE BACKROUND. THANKS!!!!
This auction is for a set of very rare to find vintage JBL Linear Efficiency Systems Speaker Set with Tranducer in great condition, with all it's original J.B.Lansing Sound,Inc.Literature. I am not an expert on speakers so please feel free to email me any questions. I acquired these from the original owner and can honestly say the sound is amazing and they were not abused in any way. I can really see why people love them so much. The info on the cards states that the serial number on the left speaker is D-46 S-5 WX 1919-1751-1638 and the right is D-46 S-5 WX 1911-1678-1643. These were bought as a set so I have no idea why they aren’t the same. This was hand written on the warranty pack, I don’t know were the number is on the speakers themselves but I’ll tell you if you tell me where to look. The transducer is model # SE 401 serial Number 1405. I am told this alone is worth $750-$1000. I prefer to be completely honest so there are no surprises…. there are no stains or damage to the wood besides a small knick and a couple scratches. I assume its moving damage. The wood really looks as gorgeous as pictured. I can take some pics if you want. I am sure they could be easily fixed but I will let the winner handle that. These are way to nice for me to mess up. I have no idea what shipping will cost, but I will do all I can to make sure they get where they are going safe and sound. I am not packing them up just yet so I can answer questions, but they will be shipped directly following payment. Thanks for looking and good luck.
This was in the manual with the speakers.

Q:Where is Massillon,OH, in relation to Cincinnati? Would you consider having a package/shipping company pack & ship these units if I paid for same? John in DenverNov-22-06
A:I am letting the UPS Store handle packing and shipping. This way I an sleep easier knowing it is safe. They will let me know weight and so on friday afternoon. They will all be in separate boxes. Cinci is about 5 hours south of Massillon.

Q:Howdy ... a little confused ...will you ship or not ?
A:I will ship, I just need to get a weight on them and I will get a calculator on there. I think I can still revise the auction since there are no bids.

Q:Hello, How many speakers and what type are in these cabinets? What is the condition of them? Can you take a pic of them and email them to me? Thanks.
A:It is all original and like new. The S5 refers to the driver configuration-LE8 woofer and LE30 aluminum dome tweeter, that is all I know. There are two speakers and they are universal. The cabinets have a small knick and a few surface scratches but nothing dramatic. My guess is they are from being moved around. The speakers are like new. the screens are even in great shape. I will look to see how the front comes off. I am hesitant to take them aparts because I don't want to damage anything. I'll take a look this afternoon. I am also updating the pics so keep an eye out.

Q:Please quote shipping charge to Hong Kong, thanks! Gary
A:I will look into it tonight for a real answer, but this is what was on an old auction for the same set (without the transducer. I am going to try to update the pics also today as I am getting MANY emails about having two right side speakers. This is NOT true. :INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING OF SPEAKERS WILL REQUIRE A CUSTOM MADE PALLETIZED CRATE 150.00 PLUS SHIPPING...............................NOTE:SHIPPI NG WILL REQUIRED 150.00 DLR. CUSTOM MADE PALLETIZED CRATE......ESTIMATE,INTERNATIONAL AIR 350.00 SURFACE 200.00 PLUS THE PALLETIZED CRATE 150.00 DLRS.AND IF THERE'S A CERTAIN FREIGHT CARRIER YOU PREFER,WE CAN WORK OUT DETAILS

Q:It would appear that you have two of the same side speakers in this set. They do not appear to be mirror image of each other but rather the same speaker times two. The idea of this speaker is to put the two rounded edges together so it looks like a curve or half circle in the front. Unless one of the speakers is up side down? Going by the JBL logos on the front if you sit these speakers on their sides which is how they go they both are the same speaker and not one left side and one right side. Do the backs of the speakers look the same? If you put them on their sides end to end with the jbl logos in the upright position is one of the backs upside down? Something just isn't right with these!
A:You see that is the eye I need since I am no expert. Although they did show them side by side in the catalog. These were honestly bought new by my husbands uncle as a set. We got them and they were pretty dusty. These faces with the JBL logo are attached with wooden dowels and I apparently put one back on upside down... I can prove it to ya! I don't seem to attach a picture and I don't have you address, SO I will try to add it my listing.
