Did Altec used 604 in a back loaded horn?
According to this site back in 1945 there was model A6 using 15" duplex.

Hi
I have some reservations concerning that post. The 604 could be mounted in a bass horn unless the horn tweeter was extended to the front of the bass hprn like the DTS system. Here is s sight with the description of the A6 in the 1940's.

Take a look in the Library to see what they have

His word "this" is a link and there is a chart at that site listing an A6 with a Duplex.

Back in my large-scale cabinet building days I made a pair of single scoops with oak plywood for a client. The baffleboard behind the mounting panel needed a special recess made to clear the driver but it turned out to be a killer system for the guy.
He complained that his old marantz tube components needed too much service and he wanted me to take them in trade as junk...I said "no room" and declined.
Man that was a mistake of youth...
That sounds like an incredible idea! In all the years I've been into scoop designs I never considerred one with a provision to allow clearance for the back of a 604, since thay are deep to begin with. Without looking up the numbers right now, I'd think likely candidates would be the 604E and earlier versions for such a proposition.

Charley
Even JBL's current 2155H duplex could sound great in one of those cabinets!
Anyone tried it?
Tom
Altec VOTT line were all for the most part front loaded horn cabinets except for A8 and more recent models like A10 A12 A6 1993 year.
I would be surprised if the year 1945 A6 was a rear loaded horn.
Someone with more past experience should look into this matter.
The web site "another Altec page " does indeed state a duplex in a A6 cabinetfor the year 1945.
The Marketing brochure of that year shows otherwise. ( front loaded horn ).
