    Hi,

Brand new to the audio world. Looking to build a system around a set of l212’s. Big dreams small budget. What would you recommend for vintage preamp and power amp ~1k$.

    Appreciate the help,

    Gary

Will you play vinyl? Do you need the convenience of remote control?

If you can give up the remote, there are many older analog preamps that are very good to outstanding that you can get for $200 to $400. (eBay prices) I really like the PS Audio preamps starting with the Model 4 and later. If you must have a remote, good luck! Most of the contemporary digitally controlled preamps sound like sh_ _. For $1K and up they are ok, but then you won't hear much without an amp.

For an amp, a newer Hafler is good, Adcom is good, Parasound is quite good, the nicer tube units will either be low power or too expensive. You may find a deal on an older Mac (solid state). I really like Classe or Bryston, but I doubt you can get one in your price range.

    Thanks,

only have CD's no remote needed. Do you know why I see so little written on the 212's? How do they rank in sound quality with other speakers. The reason I ask is the set needs work and not sure if their worth it.

Here is info on the L212. From the Lansing Heritage Library.

Personally, I heard them many years ago and wasn't blown away, but then that's just my opinion.

    Yeah, they stink.
    Part them out.
Send MJC or myself a PM letting us know what you'll take for the drivers.

I'll be glad to take them off your hands, what do you want for them?

If I remember right the 2000 had a pesky but dirt cheap Harris op-amp; a PL 700B, (eBay) would be inexpensive and "vintage".
