    horn swap?

Question is of several parts. I have available a pair of the blue urei horns from the 813. Would it be of advantage to convert my 604e's, stock with multi cell horn, to these horns? Is it mechanically possible? Are there other physical changes to these stock horns that the group believes are in the right direction?
    thanks.

Here's a graph I grabbed off an Ebay auction. You can see the Urei horn looks better however this is not the same drivers as your 604E's. Which Urei horns do you have? There a couple of versions not sure if they all attach exactly the same way. I have seen Altecs with the Urei horns but am not sure how invasive the swap would be.

    horn graph

I'm not sure which horns they are. They are the blue plastic horns from an early 813 system. Particularly in the off axis response the U horns are superior. I would imagine that that would transfer to the E series 604 as well. The mounting holes are at 180 from each other, on the horizontal plane.
    Thanks

Have you tried on the Altec forum at Great Plains Audio??

    http://www.greatplainsaudio.50megs.com/

They at least could tell you how the horn is assembled to the 604. Might even have someone who has done the swap. The horns all look a little different. You have the one without slots??? Those would be the first one's I think. You can go through the Urei brochures at JBL Pro. The link is below. That might help you ID what you have,

    http://www.jblproservice.com/pdf/Sys...I%20Series.pdf

Gives you part numbers if you have any on the horns

The speakers manuals are inbedded in this list

    Good Luck

If you so a searh (on the www) there is a snippet on the whole history of the variations regards the horn..intruduction of the resonators on the horn, the cell foam etc and the chnages made because of the quality and changes in manufacturing at Altec.
