LE 175 diffusion horn? necessary?

Is the diffusion lense on the end of the le175 necessary? What happens to the sound if the lense is removed? I have a cabinet that isn't deep enough for the complete length of the horn so if I remove the diffusion lense and mount and use what should I expect from the sound? I am using with a LE 14. Not sure I understand what you mean here. A picture would help.

I will assume you are leaving the horn in place and just removing the diffusion plate and holder?? If that's all you are doing you are changing the directional characteristics to that of the horn. You may also peak the response a bit on axis.
