I use FM interstation hiss for testing, also spoken word recordings of male and female readers. After all that I switch to Jazz, mostly recently recorded stuff that was either full digital or at least excellent analog recordings.

I use recording by Earth Wind and Fire, George Benson, Jimi Hendrix, The Police, and a wide assortment of Dance and Rock tracks.

The Dire Straits Brothers in Arms is an excellent test album. So is Dark side of the moon. Tracy Chapman's first album has an excellent spoken word track and really good acoustic guitar.

Listening test record form your audio collection

I only listen to "Afternoon Delight" by Starland Vocal Band.

I'm totally sick of all other music.
To be totally blunt, it all sounds rediculously "gay" to me...

    You crack me up.

But what about Wham's "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" Shirley, that can't be gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

    Oh Yeah! Wham!

I was watching "I love the 80's" last night for some reason I still can't fathom and they were waxing on about G.M.'s butt in that "I want your sex" video. Some lady got on and was saying she was like 12 years old when that came out and she was walking around singing "I want your sex". Looking back she seemed appalled.

Play it backwards and the lyrics change to "same old bitch in the morning".
I did receive the new Diar Straits (Best Of) CD and was really impressed with the recording.

Looking at your avatar, I would have thought you more of a Village People type! Singing songs like Macho Man, and YMCA!

Play some classical or opera..that is the acid test..okay I am kidding..or am I!

I recall a dealer always saying the L200's sounded okay till he played opera..then the Kef's had the march.

My favourite is a Chesky Jazz sampler Vol 1. jd-37

    Part 1 is the music....
    1. Tico Tico,
    2. Stompin at the Savoy.
    3 Viola fora de moda.
    4. Club de sol...
    5. Charles Christopher
    6. Meditation
    7. Pennies from heaven
    8. Samba de Orfeo..
    9..The song is you

Part2 is listening and technical tests
    Left right imaging test
    LEDR test
    Acoustic sound stage
    Absolute polarity test
Multiple generation and low level linearity test
    and some other stuff

Also Eva Cassidy Live at the Blues Alley..if you cry it means your system is workin good!

I use an album of John Williams and the Boston Pops, doing Big Band, for testing dynamic swing, and balance of my system! Nothing like a really well recorded classical symphony going from very faint triangles to big deep kettle drums, and you know if the mids are right or not when the brass horns kick in!

Stanley Clarke albums for bass articulation. Lopsy Lu is the cut!

Tito Puente- Ran Kan Kan, for musicality, and of course, percussions! Very alive and dynamic recording.

Pink Floyd- Dark Side of the Moon, for spatial imaging.

Oh, and, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald, Summertime! Satchmos horn will make you feel emotional through a great system, no doubt about it!
