CHOICES AGAIN...

Hi,

Any idea which is a better speaker, the Sovereign 075/L85 version ($2000) or a L222 Disco ($1000)? Is the Sovereign a higher end model in the JBL hierachy?

My music taste is classic/fusion jazz, pop, rock and I like to play loud.

You have the Sovereign I (C60) delivered with S7R (LE15, LE85) or S8R (LE15, 375, 075). You also have Sovereign II (C61) which I am not familiar with.


The S7R's usually get $1000-$2000 on eBay, while the S8R's get $4000-$5000. In mint condition.

Which Sovereign is it?

The S8R's will play loud. Actually very loud. Fear factory when the 375 takes off on those short horns.

You could get them both, and decide after a while...

L222 is less nasty....

Two very different animals. Loud go with the Sovereign's. You would be better off auditioning both. Watch the 222. If I remember they retuned the passive to make it boom along with the music of the times.You can change the weights in the back of the passive radiator to get back to an L220.

Thanks guys. I'll have already checked out the L222. Most probably this weekend I'll check out the Sovereigns. I think its the S8R model but the owner swapped the 375 for a L85.

If it's an S8R, it will have the N7000 xover and an 075 tweeter in addition to the (substituted) LE85.
