Sorry... the 2241 is a SVG design. They are not compatible.

2245 and 2240 are only ones that recone right!

If you are looking at horn-loading, the 2240 is not bad.

Also dont forget the E155 which can become a 2245 or 2240

For a sub, the 2245 is great, so, why bother?

Sorry to reopen this old thread.

My reconer proposed me to install a 2241 kit in my 2245 baskets.
I want a proper 2245 so I refused, however I am quite surpised he proposed me such a thing, as I thought (knew) the two were not compatible.
That makes me anxious about the qualification of this reconer.

Could someone please tell me if a 2241 kit would actually -fit- (ie at least produce some decent sound, even if it is a total frankenwoofer) in a 2245 basket?

Well from what I can remember at the very least the gaps are a bit larger on the VG drivers so I don't see how you could get the coil in there. You have an .057 on the 2245 and a .086 on the 2241. Probably diferences in the VC height as well.

different voice coil length (1" vs 3/4") ... perhaps not such a big deal.
different gap depth (at least with the 2240 kits, -this- is the same).

seems like a recipe for higher distortion even if it 'fits'.

SVG cooling in 2241 allowed for Al coil vs Cu for 2245/2240 ?
Might have a coil/heat issue as well.

Then there's what Rob just said

    Thanks for your answers!

So it is even possible that 2241 kit would not enter the 2245 gap...
Maybe he made an error and was thinking about a 2240 kit ?...
I hope so, because as I said I am quite anxious.
His prices are also very low: 230€ with labor for each 2245.
He tells me that they are original JBL kits, but that he gets them directly from the manufacturer, not from JBL (so maybe from Mogami, or even some old stocks from Hawley ?)

And as Guido said in another thread:

So I will try to be particularly careful when inspecting the kit, looking for the correct number of ribs and the aquaplass.
I guess I could even mesure the Re of the coil.

He's not using recone kits that are sourced from JBL. They are parts he is putting together to make a speaker that doesn't exist....until he puts it together.

All...I mean ALL... JBL RECONE KITS COME PRE-ASSEMBLED FROM THE JBL ASSEMBLY LINE....IN A BOX WITH A JBL LABEL...AND NOWHERE ELSE.

This price? In Europe sure not original!
