What ambience are you talking about? I think you are referring to the very diffuse nature of the 4430 system in a normal home environment.

IMHO ambience refers to the extension and accuracy of high frequency overtones which conveys the impression of an image in an acoustic space.

It would appear JBL has grown fond of adding a UHF device in more recent consumer product offerings despite the best intentions of their former classic 2 way horn system.

The 4425 and 4430 were not designed for home consumer applications, but I suppose that is beside the point around here.

Heck, I am starting to sound like WG!

    On "Ambience"

From the Project Everest White Paper:

Some loudspeakers which have a wide radiation pattern tend to produce a rather "spacey" sound, inasmuch as they may bring into play considerable local room reflections. Many listeners at non-center positions mistake this for cues in the recording itself, and such loudspeakers give the impression of richness in ambience, but of course without precision of localization.

    wow....how many great suggestions...
Now I've very clear idea on what to do.
I'll cut the story with this girlfriend, I'll move the 4430 from my office to MY home, and next time I'll have a date with a "potential" girlfriends I'll not ask her about is life or job or family or anythingh else.
I'll just ask: "do you know JBL ?"

By the way, is really nice to read your comments in this forum.
I'll have some other questions soon.
I'm going to start to restore the 4430. They are quite old and need some care.
    I'll be back soon....

Or: This is just a basic solution. It will eventually grow up.

AND ask her ( even more important) do you LOVE JBL..what do you think of my 4430's? If she oohs and aah's and runs her hands softly over the speakers, you know you have winner.

seriously tho, the only way to get the 4430 sound is with a 4430. They sound great with MAC's ( that's what I had)

Why not add a sub to work under the 4312s? I did this with a pair of 4312As and, with the sub barely working, they sound teriffic!
