HELP! with 2404H-1 replacement diaphragm 8 vs 16 ohm....

Here is the deal. I have a pair of 80's vintage 4698B cabaret series speakers. They have 2404H-1 drivers. One of my 2404H-1's is blown and when i opened it up i found it has an 8 ohm diaphragm which i believe is the D8R075 (since it has "2402" stamped on the outter ring). The JBL parts person I spoke with said I should replace this with the D16R2405 which is the 16 ohm diaphragm used in the 2404 and 2405. Is this the right thing to do? My other speaker still has the original 8 ohm diaphragm. Is this going to cause any problems impeadance wise or sound wise? Thanks for any help.

It you want it to match the frequency response of your other 2404H-1, use a 2402 diaphragm.

The impedances are the same.

2405 diaphragm will give more HF extension, but is supposedly less rugged for SR use. It IS, however, the JBL recommended replacement diaphragm.

Actually the 2402 ( D8R075 ) *IS* the correct diaphram for the 2404H-1 as you noticed when you opened it up.

If you asked the parts wonk, and said 2404 ( not -1 ), then the D16R2405 would of been the correct response.

And yes they are all the same impedance...go figure...

I believe the D16R2405 diaphragm is a thinner membrane, so it will reach a little higher than the 2402 and needs to be crossed over higher...preferably above 5KHz.

Yes, D8R075 is the right one. Same impedance but "thicker" membrane. Just couldn't find the reference info for the "thicker" membrane.
Beware! there are other -wrong- parts list out in the web.
BTW, no prob to use the D16R2405 as long as your network cross over around 5 kHz but your speaker crossover at 3 kHz! So your JBL "Tech" is wrong.

Hi Everyone, New guy here. Had a dead 2405. Resistance was 56 ohms. Removed diaphragm and laid it flat and tapped arround in a circle with handle of a putty knife. Rechecked resistance 6 ohms. Reasembled and it is working fine. Has anyone ever tryed this?
