    bass player's puzzle

I have a pair of the LE15A's. I want to box them and use them for my electric bass guitar. I am open to all suggestions about the viability of such an application.

    application?

I would -think- you'd be better off using the LE15A's for something else. The dynamics
of bass playing could beat those up pretty badly. If you like the 15" sound, I'd
recommend something from JBL ending in 140 or 145 as being more applicable.

    Cheers,

Agreed. LE15A's would not be suitable, certainly not for performance, as they can't take the requisite power. Forum member Johnaec is a bass player who's tried different JBL drivers; he may be able to advise.

    I'd use E140 or 2226 in 15".

    Yep....don't use LE15A for bass guitar....and I am a musician and JBL Authorized Service. Use an E140, 2032, 0r 2226...if you're gonna run 15"s anyway.

    Yeah...

K/E140's and the harder to find K/E145's are pretty good for generalized bass guitar. I've also tried the 2245H, ('need's too big a cabinet), but no other 18's...

My current rig, (and favorite), is a JBL Sub1500, (rarest of all), but it really needs a 2118 8" or K/E110 10" for highs, and TONS of power, but nothing I've found will put out the same for a given small volume. I'd also like to try the JBL W15GTI differential drive model, but it's performance really only just matches the Sub1500, at least when running the numbers in box design programs.

    bass player no longer puzzled

thanks, that is what I thought. However, the other part of the rig is going to be cerwin vega v124's and pioneer pro audio 8" speakers, and 1 5X9 hard horn crossed over with an ancient qsc electronic crossover and a passive crossover in the cab. I will be pushing the rig with a 1982 sunn col. 300.

I'd suggest selling the LE15's and getting E140's if your only need is for bass guitar - you'd probably have money left over.

I've used a JBL E140 with 2 Roland 10"s for highs as a loud but compact bi-amped cabinet, I've used a JBL 2135 solo for lower-volume stuff and liked that, too (interesting for guitar, as well). Currently running an Altec 8256 cabinet with two Altec 3156 15"s most of the time. That cab with a Hartke 3500 is the sound I'm looking for, the E-140 w/ 2 x 10"s & SWR SM400S was the most high-fidelity.

Try a search on this forum for the K140. One of my all-time favorite electric bass speakers. The E140 is good too.
Here is a photo of one of my Sunn 1-15 cabinets where I added a 5" speaker (100 watt Hot Spot) to work with a JBL K140. It adds a little sparkle and edge to the K140. I use this cabinet on top of a slightly larger cabinet with a Gauss 5840 in it. Together they deliver a nice full, clear basss sound. I also went to an Ampeg SVT 4 Pro head...(that may be part of the secret.)
