    2482 dia. in a 2440-41

I was wondering if you could use a 2482 dia. in a 2440-41 driver??? Will it function and spec out the same as a 2480-82 driver

    Nope....won't work...different voice coil spacing.

A bit more detail would be nice? Do you mean the gap is too narrow???

Sorry for the brevity.....No, the voice coil is positioned so as not to be compatible in the static position in the gap. In other words, the voice coil sits in the wrong place....the 2480/82/85 phenolic diaphragms are not interchangeable with 2440/41/45/50/51 aluminum or titanium diaphragms and vice versa....of course you're always free to experiment and report your findings to us. The current diaphragm interchangeability list can be found at the www.jblpro.com website...These two driver types are physically different.

    Hope that clarifies...

Not sure about the differences in gap width and depth between the two driver families. The main problem is that the diaphragm mounting screws are on a larger circle on the phenolics, due to the wider compliance and larger mounting ring of these diaphragms.

Radian makes an aluminum diaphragm with mylar compliance for use in the 2480/2482. It has an extra wide mounting ring to reach the mounting holes in these drivers. Some time ago, I tested several 2482s that were fitted with the Radian diaphragms. They measured very similar to a stock 2440 and sounded very good.
