    1/3 vs. Parametric EQ

    Hey Widget

Don't know if you have seen this or not. It's interesting and point's out what you were saying in the other EQ thread. Need a nice sharp filtered parametric to deal with room modes. Reminds me of the RABOS system and the parametrics in the Revel sub. Still like my ancient Uries but I have to agree they are and where not designed to deal with that.

I haven't seen that one... I'll check it out.

Another good tool for room correction is the Rives PARC... all beautiful analog too!

I read the reviews on the PARC. Nice!! Have you ever dealt with the old analog feedback destroyers?? I think Behringer had one. I know many will cringe at the thought but if I see one I might just see what it can do. God knows what it will sound like but it seems to be possible to configure one to work along the same lines as a PARC. In my 8024 I have a digital feedback destroyer built right in. Any other analogs like the PARC you know about??

I've got one of those RMC kits described in the JBL paper, but haven't put it to use yet. Two of them just sold on eBay for $6 and $1 respectively - I paid $30 for mine. I think they're about $100 new.

It really does look useful, and I expect to try it out on my 4315's pretty soon - I've got a "sound party" coming up near the end of September for a bunch of friends of mine, (including a Bose 901 "aficionado")...

Even the guys at Sabine say the old analog feedback eliminators were pretty much useless....they're right.

    Feedback Destroyers

I hate 'em all. I've run into quite a few in smaller clubs where they love to tout "we've EQ'd the room and everything is great", only to see their racks crammed with this nonesense. And, as the BE (which I am in those instances), going to "bypass" mode is not an option without getting the band fired. These devices run rampant through the frequency spectrum - you've little control on what they are doing, where, or how they are doing it (i.e., Q). Far too much automation. Better to know your cabinets, study the room response (real-time) and adjust minimally, as necessary. Sure it's a nerve-wracking hassle, but it's a learned art, too.

    Feedback suppressors

UREI made one, the model 562. Shows up on eBay once in a while, and they usually go pretty cheap. Here's a link to the manuals page at JBL PRO.
