    Question about 123a woofers

All the 123a's which I've seen in the L100 enclosures have the white Aquaplas coating. But I have also seen some with a black, and even fewer with a grey, surface. What's the difference (besides color) in these 123a's? What models were they used in besides L88 and L100?

123A-1 (2212 Pro equivalent) and 123A-3 (2213 Pro) both have white aquaplas on the front of the cone. Maybe the units you saw with black and grey were aftermarket recones. I'm not aware of any domestic C8R2212,2213 that used black or grey aquaplas....I've never seen grey "Aquaplas*"

Here's a closeup of a 123 with what appears to be dark grey Aquaplas.

The wax seals are intact so I assume they're not recones.

The L-88's used a black cone on the earlier models.

Let's not forget the OEM green aquaplas used on Heathkit's version of the L88.

If you were going to recone that unit you would not have to touch the wax seals, so that does not confirm that you are dealing with jbl cone???

But I would bet that it is, as I have seen factory grey units in the past.

I think they are kind of cool and you do not have to worry about the cones turning yellow

I have a set of heathkit drivers and the green color appears to be painted over the white aquaplas. I have verified this by a small scratch on a part of the cone. Hope this helps in your quest for the truth!
