Remove 2416H from Horn?

HELP

Today I received my 2416H factory mount to a 2372 Horn (from Control12).

I can't remove the driver from the Horn. Is it glued?
I don't want to destroy anything.

Any advice?

I had the same problem on my 2416's with 2373 horns. They used a thread sealer of some sort. I had to bolt the horn upside down to plywood to get a good enough grip to unscrew the driver from the horn. It was not fun or easy. Be careful you don't catch one of the terminals on the back of the driver. I did hurt like He**. I quess you could try something to loosen it up as you are unscrewing it but I have no idea what is safe. I used one of those gum remover solvents after I had it off. If you leave it on it will lock the next horn screwed on. Found that one out the hardway.

Works to good what ever it is.

Have You tried:

Set the horn facing down.

Use a syringe or similar to squirt auto brake fluid, the old alcohol based one, DOT3 I believe, not the newer synthetics, where the threads meet.

Repeat about 5 times a day, let it seep overnight, then unscrew it.

I hope it works.

This may sound crazy, but has anyone called JBL Service to ask what the proper method is for driver extraction? They must have a recommended solvent or technique. That isn't a 40 year old product.

Just a thought.

Hi Guido,

there is another solution, i hope.
Use oil for guns, in Germany the name is "Ballistrol".

With Ballistrol i have seperated most glued pieces. You have to repeat and wait a few days.

It is worse a try.

I got it!

It's heat!

I used a hot air blower and GENTLY warmed the horn throat.
With a special cone (jet) I especially warmed the metal part.

Do not blow too hot air not to melt the horn or put tension to the driver.

It was still touchable (appr. 50 - 60°C) without hurting.

Then it was easy to loose.
