    Shipping Large Speakers

Well it looks like I might have a pair of L-300s from 1974, original owner! Shipping is the issue now. He wants to ship Fed Ex or UPS and I'm telling him (He understands) That that just can't happen. My question is what is a good shipper at a reasonible price from North carolina to St. Louis?

Even with your renowned woodworking skills, better make the drive, bud. Entrusting the original owner (what age...?) to get them crated to your satisfaction, is risky, IMHO.

Pick a weekend, grab some Genesee Cream ale, and off you go...

If He´ll meet you half way, offer him some $$ to deliver, IMHO.

    I agree with Bo,

This story is the exception to the rule.

Last October I eye balled a pair of L100 Centurys in prinstine condition on Ebay. The guy was a collector and had cared for them like babies. The problem was the shipping, he lived 1000 miles away on the Gold Coast but he offered to pack them in tea chests (a box within a box) only because he was smart and the state manager for a furniture line so he new what the go was.

The only problem was to find a route shipping Co who would deliver to my door when I was home. Well I finally went with TNT as I recall and they arrived in perfect nick but it was a major worry.

Your boxes are bigger and heavier so the task will need special attention.

Perhaps you can entice him with a slab of Fosters for his trouble.

I would crate them if you are going to ship them. I had 2 damaged pieces from the Tent Sale. One could have been prevented if was double boxed the other crated. Something punched a hole hit the grill and hit the woofer and cracked the cone. Wood would have been enough to keep it safe. The other was minor cabinet edge damage. JBL sent me a new speaker 4655 and let me keep the old one. The minor stuff I never called them about. Good luck when you get them.
