I read that he was a Lieutenant in the Canadian Army, and landed on Juno Beach on D-Day.Also was machine-gunned,being hit 6 times. One bullet took off the middle finger of his right hand, another hit him in the chest.Four bullets hit him in the leg.
The man is lucky not to have died there.
R.I.P. Mr. Doohan, and thanks for the entertaining memories.

I met James Doohan at a Star Trek convention about twenty years ago. Nice guy, down to earth.

FYI I also met the guy that played the character in my Avatar, I am throwing down the gauntlet, any Trekkies out there that can name him? (or care for that matter )

Either Bobby Clark or Gary Combs. If you mean Ted Cassidy ("Lurch"), he only did the voice for the "Gorn" (from episode "Arena" based on my fav. short story by my fav author Fredric Brown).

    What's my reward?

    P.S. I am NOT a Trekkie!
    But I do know sci-fi!

Right on, Bobby Clark. Its a signed photo from the Pasadena show last fall. Was Gary Combs the new Gorn captain on "Enterprise"? (I missed that episode), Arena was my favorite original episode. Gotta love that Gorn (the Mugato was a close second for cheesiness)

Aren't there any fans of Turn-on or Beverly Hills Buntz out there?

No, but you have me curious now. I loved the idea of that episode. I will have to look it up and get it now. I must have been about 8 years old when I saw that episode, I loved the dinosaur dude 'Captain Kirk, I will be merciful and quick'. My kids love my Gorn imitation The writing for the original series stole from most of the masters and was pretty good relative to what else was out there. The directing, props, actors gave just the right amount of camp to keep it light and kitchy.

I have read most Asimov, Phillip K Dick (back when it wasnt popular, I caught loads of crap for carrying around the short story "Do Androids dream of Electric Sheep" in high school), and hundreds of pulp science fiction books from the 70s. I just re-read the Robot novels to my children for bed time.

My L100S have been near and dear to my heart. Thanks again to everyone in on the raffle and building of the speakers. I have been using the L100s to reexperience my favorite music from the 70s, usually after some long strange days I have been having. I have been going through my LPs and reel to reels of Traffic, Pink Floyd, The Band, Edgar Winters, Led Zeppelin, Genesis (before Phil Collins), Canned Heat etc. Better then therapy. Almost like a time machine.
