As a twenty + year resident of the sand hills of Van Buren County, I respectfully submit that the historically correct origin of the Michigan hill-billy (Now hillbilly) came from the poor sand farmers who scratched out a living on the poorest soil south of the Muskegon-Saginaw line.
That is until they discovered they could grow apples, peaches, apricots, strawberries, and grapes there.
I guess you mid-state Wolverines can be hillbillies, too. You gonna put some Sparkomatics in the truck?
