Thread: 4430 ..how many watt's..??

I would advise that for the original speaker mentioned a 4430, a nice 500 watt amp would be the best bet. Of course any amp 200 watts or better is going to be enough to produce decent listening levels and beyond if needed. But the more power if used sensibly would provide more head room and better control over the drivers. this would be a big benefit. The peaks can be demanding so having the power to handle it with out clipping is the ticket....IMO

just lookin' to buy enuff watts for good bass control..

a too small amp usually sounds "boomy"

    i guess i gotta get a SPL meter ....

i've run both my 225 wrms Crowns to clipping, to get a comfortable, decently loud listening level

    both horns are set flat
both woofers sound fine, Lotsa low end Definition ..!

just not a lot of volume

i guess loosing the 7 db efficiency from my Altec/ Klipsch speakers....
    .............really hurt's ..!

i have been runnin' Model 19's, Twin Chorus 2's ( 106 dB together in parallel ) 'n Cornwalls

4430's absolutely KILL the Klipsch in Low end Definition ....

are a nice adjunct to the 19's..a very fine speaker in it's own right, not as much Slam as the 4430's.... but Sweet Altec Mid's....

i'll be lookin' for the delivery of my new crown K-2 next week ....

Duke... sounds like you need to upgrade to the 4435... maybe you even need the 4355.... If you are using that kind of power you like it loud.

When pushed, the 4435 will have a better bottom while the 4355 will sound less stained up top.

i Really need to get a SPL meter.....

i am listening to them right now, pleasent level, but nothing you can't talk over with a raised voice

well, i may like my jazz louder than most, but i don't abuse my ears (much)

surprised i can still hear 15k after being in bands 25 years ...i wore ear plugs alot
    same for skeet ...

    i'm just spoiled by the 4 Chorus 2's ...

i may be clipping the input of the power amp .. the 4430's of course @8 ohm

don't draw the power from the amp, like parallel chorus2's

    4 ohms, they really bark

    101dB/watt/meter > to 4 ohm +3dB > to 2 speakers +3dB = aprox 106- 7 dB/watt/meter

    4-5 vac...at the speaker

i'm clipping the Input of the power amp is whats goin' on

my preamp can deliver 7 volts out ...

dueto the 8 ohm/ 93 dB sensitivity, i'm driven the input of the power amp too hard..

to gt the probably 105 dB i'm evidently used to it seems ...

    jeez ...

it don't seem like it was that loud before ....

Other than my little 4311s, I would love to get/build some other speakers with JBL components. You notice how several of the Klipsch guys upgrade their drivers to JBL/Altec? Like putting an 811B horn in the Belle, or replacing the T35 with 2405s?

    That's the ticket!
