is the 2440 and 2380A Horn suitable for the MID and High Range
or only for the Mid Section

That's not that easy to answer. It depends on the diaphrams installed on the 2440's. You have at least 3 possible with the original aluminum 2440 with the C half roll which has good extension up to about 10K. The next is a 2441 also aluminum with the diamond surround that significantly increases output above 10K. Next is the 2445 Titanium with increases output above 10K. If you look at the horn spec sheets it will tell you the driver used so you can use these curves to compare the changes as the diaphrams evolved. The other issue is how much energy you like in the last octave. Take a look at the DI changes in the last octave to see what the horn is doing up high.

    race to the top

If a 2445 diaphragm will fit a 2440 (I have no reason to think it won't and those with more experience in this area have indicated it will), then I expect you can go 1 step further toward dog-whistle heaven, using a D16R2450 (basically, a 2445 diaphragm with embossed stiffening ribs, ala 2446) or the 8 ohm equivalent. I bought what seemed like a good deal pair of 2446J's... one seemed a bit less bright and sure enough, it had a 2445 (no ribs) diaphragm. Located and installed a new D16R2450 and the balance between drivers was found (same level of top end). Whether it is better to use a 240(3/4/5) (keeping it in the family) to fill in the top octave and optimize the diaphragm for your midrange preference, or try to do it all with one driver would likely depend on your goal/budget. My current ear torture arrangement lets the 2446's + old bi-radial roll off without top-end help, and brings in a 2405 w/ passive 12dB/oct high pass @ ~9-10KHz. I found I personally preferred this to trying to EQ the 2446's top octave for critical listening. For filling the back yard w/ recordings less detailed, the 2405 wasn't missed at all.
    (ah... had similar preference/experience when trying CD-compensated 2380's with and w/o 2405)
