    LE85 Frequency Range

    I've done a search of the forums and have looked at brochures for the L200 and L300, but I've yet to find a spec for the frequency range of the LE85 driver using an H91/L91 horn/lens combo? I have read that the top end of this driver is about 15 KHz, but I'd really like to get some other opinions on this.

    They were used as low as 500 Hz (S7) and the 8-Ohm pro version was used on the first 4430's, spec'd to 16 kHz on 2344 biradial horn. They'll "push" to 18-20 kHz with HF boost, though I've never done that on an exponential horn/lens. Use 311xA crossover to try it, maybe....

    2420 = LE85
    2391 = HL91 = 2307/2308

    It depends on the diaphram. My early 70's le85 drop off at 1600 (using a real time analyser). I had one diaphram replaced in 1979 (at jbl) and it shows going to 20k. Those are both aluminium. I have heard tell that the titanium diaphrams also go to 20k but no first hand experience with those.

    Thanks for the info. I'm trying to understand why the L200 and the L300 were being sold at the same time when the L300 seems to be an L200 with a 077 slot tweeter tacked on. Shouldn't the L200 be lacking north of 15KHz?

    Yes, the 4331/L200 was offered at the same time as the 4333/L300.
    I wouldn't let that fact keep me up nights. There obviously was a market for them all at some point.
    The 4331/L200 was good to ~ 15 kHz while the 4333/L300 was good to ~ 20 kHz.

    Yes. That's why L200B added HF boost to the crossover. L300 with its separate UHF driver still had better HF exension.

    There were other differences, also, namely the longer horn in L300 which allows the LE85 to play decently at the low end.
