    The Everest horn on Ebay

    Hi all,

I intend to buy the single Everest horn for sale on Ebay. The sole purpose is to make exact measurements such that I can make a pair of Everest horns.

I will make the CAD drawings of the horn freely available to the fellow members of the LHF, so please don't outbid me ...

I had emailed the seller about this question, be aware you are getting only the horn, the driver pictured will be sold separately. I was wondering if anyone on this site was looking at this. I thought about it but I won't bid against you either.

Good Luck and be sure to put a big enough bid in just in case a sniper is waiting out there!!

    benefits of everest horn

hi, just curious, the everest looks like half a horn, was that the theory, to have more sound and dispersion on one side vs. another? does this help the stereo image/separation? maybe it looks different than it functions...tableradio

    Hi Tableradio,

The horn is question is the 2346 horn which was designed initially (I think) for the 4660 Defined Coverage single speaker. See the .pdf file on this unit here:

    http://www.jblpro.com/pub/obsolete/4660.pdf

The idea was to provide single speaker coverage projecting sound into a long, deep rectangular space from above. I am familiar with this speaker since I found one and use it in my church as the mono cluster with a subwoofer - it has worked admirably well for a relatively modest sized auditorium.

In the Everest, each side has a horn projecting sound into the central soundspace in a controlled manner and so avoids external lateral reflections which can muddy the imaging. Also, I think this design can allow for the speakers to be placed in less-than-traditionally optimal positions and still get good stereo soundfields. For example, with much less lateral spillage, one could slide them much further outward toward side walls than previously thought.

Interestingly, aside from the 4660 and the Everest, I don't think the asymetric horn like this one has been used elsewhere, but someone correct me if that is incorrect.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Bart

    Asymmetric horns

    Hi Bart,

another asymmetric horn, the H2600, is found in the S2600 and the S3100.
