    What's the difference?

OK folks, curiousity has me asking...What is the difference between the LE5-12 and the 104H-2. Seems to the naked eye that they are very similar; with the 104H-2 having a coating (polyplas?). I'm sure there are some differences in response, sensitivity, etc...

    so anyone know what's different.

And yes, I'm sitting here looking at both and wondering, are they similar enough to be interchangeable? Or...?

    We've discussed this several times.

This forum is becoming a real drag - what a complete waste of my life's time posting all this information and none of it can be found.

    Yup.

Hey, Don - maybe we need to EMPHASIZE the SEARCH function, hey? It works pretty darned well, but in it's present form is a nearly innocuous "pull-down", yet is the most powerful on the Forum. I mean, REALLY SET THE BUGGER APART IN A CENTRAL BILLBOARD LOCATION WITH FLASHING LIGHTS, DANCING BEARS AND SOME NEKKED SQUIRRELS!!

    Here's what I found using a pedestrian SEARCH on the string "LE5 104H" - http://audioheritage.csdco.com/vbull...searchid=58197

Eight Threads were found; the one "LE5 Versions" contains a feast...

A great benefit of finding an old Thread is that follow-up questions there ARE IN THE RIGHT PLACE and further the usefullness of this resource.

Hey Giskard - don't let the newbies get you down. It *is* a real drag when people are either too lazy or too uninformed to use the Search function (either here or in general/Google). I hate to pick on this guy, but in this case he would have found the answer faster with search than it took him to type in the post.

All he had to do was read the big Sticky Post at the top "Forum Rules"

..."To make this place enjoyable and useful to its members, there are a few basic guidelines. First, before you post a question, use the search feature that is accessed from the row of buttons at the top right corner of all pages. Since this forum has been in operation for some time, there is a very good chance that any question you may have has been asked and answered before. "

I spend a lot of time on motherboard and memory forums and those guys are *brutal* if you don't take the time to (re)search before you post.

    Perhaps we're too kind here...

Well I hope Brian doesn't think I'm picking on him because I'm not. We've all talked about this before. I sometimes have trouble finding old posts now that we've got over 47,600 of them to search through. I had a hard time finding what I needed the other day and really had to sift through some threads. I guess it's just the nature of the beast. Hopefully Brian will find what he is looking for. If not, an "I searched for this but still need elaboration" post should help.

I agree - the Search" function should be much more prominent.

I don't know if it's possible to easily modify these web pages, but what I think would be ideal is a big "Search" or "Search First!" search button right next to the "New Thread" buttons - it couldn't get much more obvious that way. It would be right in front of their face if they were poised to hit the "New Thread" button...

    Hi Bo, Hi Giskard,

yes, ...a nice idea, but....I mean that it's very easy to power up additions to the library where it belongs, i.e. JBL-Library/ Specs/
-Additional sheets for crossovers, which Giskard set in threads thousand times.
    - Plans, which I'd been asked hundred times (no problem)
    - "Speaker fits in.." list
    - Polarity lists, (where Bo's the specialist)
    and some more.

    my two cents

Please help us save more info about the vintage systems. Let us register your speakers and drivers.

I'm with HP. Certain stuff belongs in the Tech Reference section. Maybe we need a list of lists:

    1) The LE5 Matrix
    2) The "Goes into" list, and inverse
    3) The crossover list
    4) The recone compatability list
    5) The list of links

Geez. This response is as bad as those I see over at http://forums.vwvortex.com.

I'll add as nice as this site is, the search function is not optimal.

Second, why don't we shut the board down for conversations and just search for everything...

Did it EVER occurr to any of you people that:
    a) I may be new here, but not to internet forums
    b) I used the search function with no success
    c) Responses such as "use the search" do nothing but foster antagonist attitudes.
    d) I might have something (or several) to contribute...but now absolutely will not due to such a poor response for help when requested...

    Thanks for nothing...

    No.

    b) I used the search function with no success

    Yes.

    c) Responses such as "use the search" do nothing but foster antagonist attitudes.

My personal response to "does anybody know" and it's been answered before is "use the search".

My personal response to "use the search" is "if I felt like using the search I would have".

    d) I might have something (or several) to contribute...

Yes, often people do come here to actually contribute instead of just culling links or cutting and pasting information into their eBay ads.

OK folks, curiousity has me asking...What is the difference between the LE5-12 and the 104H-2.

The LE5-12 is the silver faced version of the LE5-10.
The 104H-2 is the black faced version of the 104H-3.

As I have posted numerous times before, the 104Hx series is not a direct electrical or acoustical replacement for the round wire LE5-x "where x is evenly divisible by 2" series.
I've received arguments about it sounding just fine anyway.
    Whatever...

    - Post #3 gave some "hits" from my quick Search, and the Link to others. That should have made you warm and fuzzy.

I believed you had, that's why I offered in my response the search string that worked for me. Not being from Boolea, I tend to think at a much lower-level than others, and my searches seem to have above-average success.

We (glad you're a part of it! ) could, but we think it would be better to add to existing Threads continuing the discussion rather than start a repetitive Thread (where possible). I do love to dream...

    - Giskard warned he might have seemed cross at you ("Well I hope Brian doesn't think I'm picking on him because I'm not.") - but he is cross at the difficulty using the database (and he has said so many, many times).

    - No-one came at you, but we ALL came-in about the need for a better, more effective and MORE OBVIOUS search function.

This place ain't so bad. Realize you sparked dicussion on something we have needed improved for some time.

If that's the only contribution you care to make, too bad. We looked forward to meeting you.

You are correct. For my terse response, I apologise to all. I'll leave it be, as a reminder to myself that my knee jerks just like any other knee...

BTW... a piece of "diffuser" trivia. My wife and I bought "grasshopper's" house.
There are a couple of film reels and studio letters in the garage still.

Nice to see the two engineering reports side by side. Thanks Giskard! Proof is on the paper...

I think it is hard to just take reality for ...well, reality.... the two mids just look so DAMN similar. They MUST be the same right?

Nothing of the kind, man. Your (unintended...) contribution is actually one of the more pithy we have right now. I solicted the involvement of Don a bit ago, and all I know is that he is contemplating how - and what - to respond to this. He needs to get behind that velvet curtain, get the fire-jets primed, and then comes forward with some insight. Rattle not, tin men!

    --------------------

Since you frequent other Forums, share any ideas of observations - please. I've previously posted that the few others I go to struggle likewise with this, and as you noted, are often gruff in their "welcome!".

I was thinking a LARGER and centrally positioned Search button might work - conversely, maybe there is a way the Moderators can splice the new inquiry into a historic Thread? Interesting thought. Dunno...

You bought David Carradine's old house? Interesting...
