    Test Tone CD

In another thread, Rob mentioned using your computer's sound card to make a 30 Hz test tone (for centering a VC). Sounds like a dandy idea to me! Trouble is, I can't find a "Test Tone for DUMMIES tutorial ". I have a clunky old Sound Blaster Live sound card. Is that enough "Juice" to make a test tone CD? How do you do it? :dont-know

Actually what I meant was you could use the output of your soundcard as a source for the tone. If you download WinIsd it has a tone generator built in. You could set it for 30Hz and bring the sound card output into a line level input on your preamp or reciever to drive the speaker. To make the CD you need a program to generate the wave file to be written on the CD

This program allows you to store tones of defined frequencies and duration as .wav files. These files can be burned to a CD. The program is shareware, meaning that you have to pay for it if you want to keep it. However, there is a 30 trial period at no cost.

Thanks - this is WAY COOL ! I grabbed the PocketPC version which seems to work great. Now I have a nice little signal generator I can take with me.

I'll be a hit at parties for sure....

For those of us who are cheap

Here's a link to free tone files. Goes from 10 HZ to 20K in graduated steps. Only 10 seconds duration but you can set up a loop for the MP3 files to play for longer times. Also has some neat frequency pan files.

I had no trouble downloading the program to my Imac (OS 10.3) but can't seem to burn a CD after I save file as per program instructions. Could someone walk me through the proceedure? Thanks in Advance for any help. I want to create a 30Hz CD for voice coil alignment work.
