    2231 Going south...

One of the 2231A's in my 4343's is now popping at higher DB levels. Already has had a cone repair.

I love the top end of the 4343. Rather than a full recone on the 2231, any recomendations on a better low end replacement [on both]? Currently bi-amped with a Crown on the bottom, McIntosh [SS] on top. Cost is dependant on what I can get away with...

For what it would cost you to get a 2235 cone in there about $120 that is the only way to go that makes sense. You certainly are not going to get a better driver or one that will intergrate properly for less than a recone on the 2231.

Then build a pair of biased 4345's.

Even building the 4345's your not going to get a significant change in bandwidth down low. More power handling and higher SPLs but that's it. And of course you have to build a new set of cabinets.

The 4345 gives a bit more authority in the bass.

What, then, would be a more modern replacement for the 2231?

Before you do anything drastic, have you tried rotating the woofer 180 degrees?
