    Such a thing?

Is there such a thing as a 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 pre-amp? I have plenty of amps. Just need to feed them.

Sure... in the vernacular of the surround world they are frequently called processors.

Personally I think that anything beyond 5.1 is marketing driven nonsense. I have yet to rent or buy a movie with more than 5.1 channels. Other than possibly an IMAX movie I don't think I have been to an actual movie theater with multiple rear channels. In my own home theater, I can't imagine a benefit to adding addition channels... OK, I'll get off the soap box now.

The McIntosh C45 is a 5.1 channel preamp. I am using one currently in a 2 channel setup with a Mac amp and JBL XPL200 speakers. Very nice sounding. Dennis

As soon as you get the 7.1 and have owned it for a few years all the studios will be laying it down in 7.1 ......in a few years. Of course by then they will have come out with 9.1 or 11.1?

Well, at $3600 the McIntosh C45 is a bit out of my range.

And as long as we stay above the horizon I suppose the most we would ever get to is 64081.1
