    JBL Equivalents?

I've often wondered what the following sentance on JBL product sheets means. "Other drivers will be considered for equivalency provided that....". I was aware that JBL made components for other OEM manufacturers, but did anyone ever supply complete speaker components to JBL? What do they mean by considered for equivalency? Why put this statement on a product data sheet? Any of the gurus know anything about this?

    Cheers,
    Ralph.

That is part of what is called the "Architectural Specifications". Essentially it is a legal description of the product that anyone (a sound designer, contractor, etc.) specifying the product will use. It gives the appearance of not specifying a product by brand, but in reality they always word them in such a way that no other product can have equivalency.

I was already convinced of a conspiracy theory! Smart move on behalf of the lawyers I guess.
