Hello
what is this for a component ?
greetings Matthias
Rack mountable surge protected power strip with pull out lights. I have one made by Furman
4406, 4412A, L100, L100t3 (3 pair), L1, L7, 4645C, 4660A, 4695B, SR4735 and various DIY JBL Pro loaded systems.
I picked up one from eBay. Upped the wattage of the 2 bulbs. Stock was a bit dim. On mine the little red light in the power switch is dead. I found the company that makes the switch and a supplier but have not been able to obtain the correct part. I have opened the switch. If I could find a grain of wheat neon bulb I could fix the switch.
My only concern is that the surge protection is no longer functional. So the unit is connected to a small UPS surge protector.

I believe there isn't any degradation caused by cascading protection. "Too much is just right"
I got hit once with my $700 computer on a surge and almost $10,000 worth of AV stuff plugged into the wall. It won't happen again.
I have been running my power amps thruugh a big APC UPS. My thinking is the battery will pull up the power when there is a large draw.
Maybe the Illuminati will check in with some more info. I would like to validate or correct my position on these issues. TIA

If You open them up, is there more than a choke (inductor), in series, which is a low pass, a cap, which dumps HF, and a MOV which absorbs high voltage?
I think the cabinet and the stupid lights cost more.
Pls let us know.
thank you very much !!
Important inside parts.

Looks like a $3 RFI filter. Is that all that is in the box?

Well, the front says EMI/RFI Spike and Surge protector.

Well that's kind of a surprise, but that's a picture from my setup. It is a Furman Power conditioner. I only use it to power some blue lights that shine on my speakers. I have never opened it up but it wasn't too expensive and it will control 6 or 8 outlets from one switch. It's really just a panel mounted power bar . It may have some filtering qualities as well. The two lights sticking out the front use a night light bulb of 7 watts in each pull-out or push-in shaft. You can adjust the light intensity as well.
MOV is the black disc thingy there. That's the surge protection....
FEATURES:
The PL-PLUSD / PL-PLUSDM Power Conditioner/Light Module is the
perfect accessory to any equipment rack, providing the basic power
protection essential to every audio or video system. Install a PLPLUSD
or PL-PLUSDM in the top slot of your rack, and the eight
switched AC outlets on the rear panel will power all your equipment
while its two slide-out light fixtures provide discreet, illumination of
their controls on stages, in studios, or in any dark place. A dimmer
control lets you adjust the lamp brightness to just the right level.
The Metered Six 15 Amp Series protects your delicate electronic
equipment by combining a high voltage surge and transient
suppressor with an RFI/EMI interference filter. The fast-acting
suppression circuit responds in nanoseconds, clamping spikes and
surges to safe levels. The filter works to prevent noise from
fluorescent lights, electric motors, radio transmitters, and similar
sources of "electronic pollution" from leaking from the AC line into
sensitive analog or digital circuits.
Sounds like a deal to me for $100.
