    Rob may need new subs...

    Hi all,

I managed to damage one of my SUB1500 subs and pending the extremely limited access to spare parts I need to start thinking about alternatives.

I would prefer dual or four 15" in sealed boxes to save reale state. What are the options? How small can a ported box go?

W1500 is equally rare and so are 2256 (or its buddy W15GTI). 2268 also seem very difficult to find. And expensive. What else?

I could maybe go with two 18" but as the 2269 is too expensive, what is the smallest box a 2268 could go HiFi in? Ported or sealed?

I do have DSP in the system and plenty of power that is 2 ohm capable.

    Other opinions or suggestions?

A wish for a nice weekend when it arrives

    Hello Rob;

Do you think it may be unrepairable?

    Barry.
If we knew what the hell we were doing, we wouldn't call it research would we.

I believe that originally there were Sub1500 repair kits. That said finding one is probably the proverbial needle in a haystack.

Can a gifted reconer repair one? Possibly. Know any willing to tackle the project? I have a pair of spare Sub1500 drivers, but one has a scraping VC. I must have over driven it at one time. If such a gifted and reliable reconer was available, I would be game.

Assuming that repair isn’t possible; Rob, have you considered substantial DSP EQ on a 2216Nd? I have no idea how successful that would be… But conceivably it could work.

Thank you for the offer Widget.

I managed to buy back a surplus pair of SUB1500 I sold a few years ago thanks to some friends. They were still in their boxes.

LN Högtalarservice in Gothenburg (they are great!!) also managed to save the damaged unit so now I have two pairs. :-)

I will most likely build an additional pair of 70l closed subs to place one on each wall to reduce nodes. Those Revel sub clones are really nice.

The amp is 2 ohm stable so that should be fine.

    Thank you for the input.

    Have a nice weekend
