    Question L 40

    Hi, members of this forum,

I need some help in restoring a pair of L 40s. I only have a pair of 125 A woofers for this project. Is it possible to use them? As far as I know, they are identical to 127 A. Only the central domes are inverted. Can I use them for this project?

    Many thanks in advance,

    Harald Woita -Audiophil GmbH Munich-

L-40's are quite nice, restore 'em for sure...

I have a set of those L40's that I re-surrounded and they are among my favorite small 2 way speakers. They use a fairly unique "strap" of fiberglass and a cardboard frame holder in back of the 10" woofer. This seems to be for "damping" the rear air pulse into the cabinet. I think this is the reason I like the bass tone of this unit, clean and controlled. And the tweeter, wonderful. A black dome. Seems to blend nicely with the woofer and gives highly defined instrument clairity, with fatigue free low distortion. These are well worth fixing up and keeping as a set of great low level volume speakers to listen to, when the big blasters are getting to be too much. I have a set of surplus surrounds for those 10" I will sell for $10/pair, if you need. It's easy.

PS. I also have a single spare 127A woofer, with fresh surround, I will sell for $45.00

Our benefactor Mark Gander came up with that long ago.

Mark is on the left in this photo.

That's a great picture and a great looking award. The best thing is Mark's hair, however. Love the pony. I am so jealous...

Used to have one, but now my hair is more like this: D'oh!
    Out.
