Thread: JBL 2231 genuine or knockoff?

    These two cone kits were bought at the same time in 2015, both made by JBL in Mexico. 2215h on right and 2245h on left. Can't imagine why the materials are so different, but I trust there is a reason. Never seen a 2215h with the lighter/purple-ish color, but have seen 2235h and 2245h.

    I have a 2202H that I reconed with a factory kit in 1987 ( old enough to have used the brown glue ) and the speaker sat in a box in my shop ever since. I found another 2202 frame a couple of years ago and bought a cone kit from Ken at Upland Speakers. The two speakers measure remarkably close to each other. Biggest difference is that the new kit has that light colored fake cork rubber gasket that was used on the K120s.
