I have one of each, both have white cones on the front. Which one is older and which speaker models would they been used in? I think the Gray Frame model came out of a 4311B but not sure.

Black Frame
Gray Frame
Grey frame is older. JBL started in the pro series in black around 1982
Hi bedrock,
RE Which one is older and which speaker models would they been used in?
According to my JBL listings ("used in" type):
2213 (no letters) was used in 4311A, and was Grey
2213H was used in 4311B, black color driver
2213H was used in 4312 (no letters), and black
2213H was used in 4312A, also black
The grey was alnico magnet, while the black is ferrite magnet
The switch from Alnico to Ferrite (and from grey to black) occured around 1980.
So the grey is older, however can't say the year it was introduced. Hope this helps you.

Thanks for the replies........... RMC, thanks for the detailed response. I think in this case, the Gray is ferrite as well, ***2213H (ferrite) ***2213 (alnico)
