Alternatively you could use an MA15 kit or similar clone. That’s how I mounted mine. They are very forgiving only require 4 holes per woofer and work well.

The Altec drivers are mounted in a rebate and mounting the JBL's with that kit would require uglificating the baffle a bit. I'll see if the ring idea comes to fruition or not first. I'd seen those clips on other people's projects though and wondered about them. Thanks for offering the info. If I do a dedicated build for the JBL's they might be the answer.
